has an excellent opportunity for candidates who are interested in working with large animals. The Animal Lab Technologist performs animal laboratory procedures to collect plasma, immunize animals and process antisera. All duties are performed in accordance with approved procedures and with moderate supervision. All duties are performed in a manner that is consistent with the goals and policies of the company, as well as in compliance with ISO standards, where applicable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sets up centrifuges and gathers supplies needed for plasmapheresis procedure. Selects appropriate labels distributed with the Weekly Worksheet to correctly label individual plasma bottles and/or test bleed tubes. Stocks plasmapheresis room with materials needed for procedure (i.e.. bottles, bags, saline, etc.) Identifies and secures animals needed for plasmapheresis procedure based on Weekly Worksheet produced by the lab. Determines catheter insertion location and inserts intravenous catheter into animal to begin collection procedure. Monitors animals during procedure, identifies when the animal is finished with the procedure and disconnects the animal. Utilizes centrifuge machines to spin collected blood, uses a plasma extractor to remove the plasma from the red blood cells, adds saline to the red blood cells and returns both back to animal. Processes the collected plasma by measuring the volume, recording volume on the Weekly Worksheet, adding preservative, and placing in the refrigerator. Performs a variety of processes (i.e. pipetting) and uses lab equipment (centrifuges, scales, etc.) according to SOPs. Performs assigned test bleeds of animals following SOPs. Mixes adjuvant and antigens according to procedures and immunizes animals as assigned, following all documented procedures. Records volumes in database. Maintains a clean and safe animal laboratory environment, adhering to cleaning policies, procedures, and schedules. Informs Animal Operations Sr Staff Technologist about animal health concerns and problems. Informs Supervisor of supply shortages. Other duties may be assigned. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in biology or relevant life sciences; or 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with large animals preferred. ALAT Certification preferred. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on and on-going basis without sponsorship
