Job Description
RN-Cardiopulmonary Rehab Boone County Hospital
Minimum of one year clinical nursing experience in cardiac and/or pulmonary care preferred. Experience with EKG monitoring arrhythmia interpretation preferred. Experience with patient education. Knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation principles and the nursing process. Ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips. Perform effectively in stressful/emergent situations. Use effective communication skills. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Adaptable to changing work schedule and patient needs. Must have excellent critical thinking skills as well as able to handle multiple issues and prioritize effectively. Position requires a positive individual who is flexible with excellent clinical and customer service skills, has an ability to work well within a team; exhibits excellent communication skills, as well as having a commitment to teamwork and team problem solving in a solution oriented manner. Must have excellent critical thinking skills as well as able to handle multiple issues and prioritize effectively. Current valid Iowa RN license or compact licensure, must be in good standing without disciplinary action current or pending Completion and maintenance of BLS and ACLS are required Completion and maintenance of Adult and child Mandatory Reporter abuse training are required
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in the classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Evaluates the need for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation by contacting the patient, identifying and documenting a risk factor and/or symptoms. Initiates physician referral, insurance verification, medical record retrieval, and admission registration. Recognizes the low, moderate and high risk patient and adjusts the plan accordingly. Begins the nursing evaluation at the time of admission with risk factor assessment, continuously updating the assessment. Charts an assessment, as part of the Cardiopulmonary Team, on each Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase II and Beginners Pulmonary Rehabilitation participant for every class. Implements exercise plans and training per patient's ability and needs. Evaluates and documents patient's response to exercise. Evaluates each patient's current risk factors and encourages appropriate modification. Problem-solves with cardiopulmonary team, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments. Communicates effectively with patients, their families, colleagues, and physicians. Promote patient safety. Documents accurately and timely in the patient's Medical record and maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed. Correctly identifies rhythm strips. Reports abnormal rhythms and abnormal response to exercise. Initiates interventions as needed. Maintains a thorough understanding of coronary/pulmonary anatomy and physiology, cardiac/pulmonary procedures, exercise equipment, risk factor modification, and psychosocial needs, using this knowledge to instruct individual patient as well as groups. Functions effectively in a crisis or emergency situation by performing actions outlined in policy and procedure; assists in insuring presence of appropriate emergency equipment on the unit. Performs crash cart and out date checks. Demonstrates ability to work independently, exhibiting individual responsibility: for professional growth, attending unit in-services and staff meetings, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Shows initiative and assumes additional duties. Performs in-depth assessment and intervenes appropriately in patients accepted to Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitation, and adverse response to exercise and provides care to patients with age-specific needs of the adult and older adult. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Manual Policy and Procedures. Coordinates patient care activities with other members of the health care team, e.g. dietician, physicians, social services, nursing, pharmacists, and making referrals as appropriate. POSITION SUMMARY
Registered Nurses with the ability to assess, evaluate, train, and educate participants in the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation setting. Assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients (adult and geriatric). Works with considerable independence within policy and program guidelines. Provides professional nursing care incorporating the nursing process, the environment, technical equipment and other health care members. Works independently with limited direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, AACVPR guidelines, and professional judgment.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

PHYSICAL ACTIVETY REQUIREMENTS

Is able to use and/or operate standard medical equipment for taking patient vital signs, exercise equipment and tools, and office equipment. Also responsible for operating all equipment needed for above essential duties.WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical working conditions involve sitting, working at a computer, walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing equipment and wheelchairs, assisting in positioning and lifting patients. Work schedule is variable; Monday-Friday, no weekends or holidays required. Overtime dependent upon need of department. Hours may vary depending on departmental staffing needs. Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and the abliltiy to accurately read measurements on patient related equipment: cardiac monitoring screens, ECG rhythm strips, monitor displays.
