GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Behavioral Interventionist is responsible for coordinating, managing, developing, implementing, and monitoring behavioral support strategies and interventions across the school division. The role includes analyzing student data to target professional development and recommend interventions aimed at addressing behavioral concerns and promoting positive outcomes for all students. This position requires regular interaction with school staff, administrators, and other stakeholders to explain and implement behavioral programs and strategies, using professional judgment to achieve the best results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following: Focuses on compliance-related monitoring of schools and programs, ensuring adherence to district regulations and procedures. Assists in completing functional behavior assessments and developing behavior intervention plans. Interprets data to improve student performance, with a focus on behavioral and emotional development. Assists in planning and implementing professional development activities for staff. Collaborates with division-level intervention specialists to support behavioral intervention strategies. Provides support to building-level staff in the development and implementation of behavioral supports for students. Works directly with individual teachers and school staff on crisis intervention, collaboration challenges, and the development of behavioral intervention plans. Provides professional development aligned with behavioral best practices and district policies. Works directly with students with behavioral and emotional concerns, providing interventions and supports. Collaborates with other staff to support students in specialized placements, ensuring behavioral needs are met. Supports staff training in state testing procedures and oversees testing for students in external placements. Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
A solid understanding of behavioral intervention strategies and the ability to work with diverse student needs. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, and community agencies. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate accountability. Preferred BCBA license or relevant background in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A valid Virginia teaching license or equivalent with a background in behavioral intervention is preferred. Experience in behavioral intervention, counseling, or a related field is preferred. Three to five years of experience working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors or at-risk youth is preferred. An advanced degree or certification in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field is preferred. Must hold a valid Virginia Driver's License and be able to travel between schools.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to groups such as staff or the public.
REASONING/OTHER ABILITIES
Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple instructions and manage standard situations with minimal variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to travel between schools. Frequent walking, standing, and stooping. Lifting up to approximately 20 pounds, with occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds. Frequent operation of office equipment. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, students, and community members is required. 11-month Contract
