To direct the District's Special Education services, preschool through twelfth grade and/or age 21. To coordinate and oversee the Child Study Team, related services personnel, special education programs and personnel.EVALUATION
Performance in this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with State statutes and rules, Board Policies, administrative directives, and be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the agreement between the West Deptford Board of Education and the West Deptford Administrators Association.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans for total special education program. Assists the building principals in interviewing all candidates for district special education professional personnel positions. Interviews all candidates for Child Study Team positions and makes appropriate recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools relative to employment. Interviews all candidates for related service personnel positions and makes recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools relative to employment. Interviews and makes recommendations relative to employment for all special education aides and 1:1 Supervises (completes required observations and annual evaluations} all Child Study Team members, related service personnel and Child Study Team Administrative Assistants. Supervises Special Education Teachers and completes observations and evaluations. Conducts regularly scheduled Child Study Team Assists in the development of policies related to the Department of Special Prepares state, local and federal reports related to special education. Interprets the special education program, policies and procedures to lay and professional groups. Serves as a liaison between the public schools and related agencies that service the Collaborates with the Director of Curriculum to plan workshops and in-service programs for parents, paraprofessional and professional staff. Oversees the maintenance of accurate files on each pupil who is eligible for special Coordinates all referrals, recommendations and placement of pupils in the special education program. Maintains accurate inventories of equipment purchased for the program. Coordinates the preparation of the Child Study Team and Special Education Provides leadership in evaluation of the total program. Engages in professional development activities which may include: participation in local, county and state meetings, attendance at workshops, taking courses, reviewing professional journals, etc. Assists teachers when appropriate toward the achievement of educational goals, program objectives and instructional priorities. Collaborates in the preparation of federal grants for ages 3-5 and 3-21 Coordinates Child Find activities Works with case managers to facilitate out-of-district public/private school placements. Collaborates with Transportation Coordinator on matters involving special education Acts as a resource to parents of children birth to age three. Coordinates transition planning with Early Intervention for upcoming preschool students. Consults with special education teachers regarding policy, procedures, current issues, programs, pupils, etc. Monitors disciplinary actions of classified Co-plans with Director of Curriculum, curriculum and instructional improvement projects involving special education staff. Advises Child Study Team members and administrative assistants regarding Special Education Code requirements, Researches new materials and methodologies for special needs and in-services staff on these topics. Oversees all details regarding monitoring, e., preparation of documentation for monitoring. Oversees and assists with the Special Education Medicaid Initiative. Plans, coordinates and oversees the District's Extended School Year Program. In coordination with the High School Principal coordinates and oversees the High School Alternative Night Schoo Engages in conflict resolution with parents and Meets with all new teachers to discuss: student IEP requirements how to marry ECRs to IEPs and district curriculum how to make curriculum modifications student/parent Meets with special education aides to discuss: IEP Role of aide (help or hover) Relationship with classroom teacher Communication between home and District 504 Coordinator. District APA Test Coordinates and supervises the Preschool Disabled Program for students 3-5 years of age. Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.Position Type:
