Job Description
The Transformer Rep is primarily responsible for performing a variety of functions related to GMP's transformer supply including inventory control, testing, and repair. Also responsible for transporting and tracking hazardous waste flow from GMP's facilities to hazardous waste storage facilities including preparations for final disposal. Duties also include testing and repair of high voltage electrical equipment. Work is varied in nature. Incumbent applies a basic knowledge of electricity principles and technologies to work performed. Works under immediate supervision and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Essential Functions (Majority of duties, but not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.) Become familiar with, and under direct qualified supervision, maintaining inventory and deliveries for all transformers throughout GMP's District Service Centers. Become familiar with, and under direct qualified supervision, testing and repairs when applicable, transformers that have been removed from service. Assists with the management of transformer and other electrical equipment waste streams by picking up at District Service Centers, draining and processing oil, testing for PCB's and setting up proper disposal. Under direct qualified supervision, test, repair, and maintain various pieces of electrical equipment including voltage regulators, OCRs, reclosers and line capacitors. Become familiar with compliance of federal regulations in regards to the hazardous waste storage facilities and containers at all GMP Service Centers. Assists with the transportation of hazardous waste to appropriate GMP storage facility. Assists with pick up and deliveries of GMP equipment and materials. Assists with stock and inventory and unloading delivery trucks. Assists with rubber glove coordination. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Minimum education, experie n ce, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.) Must develop basic knowledge of transformer installation and maintenance principles including safety and regulatory requirements Must develop basic knowledge of environmental regulations including hazardous waste storage and disposal. Maintain necessary OSHA requirements to perform the functions of this position. Certification as a forklift operator. Must acquire and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including Hazardous waste and tanker endorsements with a driving record suitable for insurability. Basic written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Must develop knowledge and understanding of the company's safety rules and practices, and perform those duties accordingly. Must be skilled in the use of protective equipment. Must have basic math skills. Must be able to utilize current technologies in computers to utilize test equipment and inventory ordering and management systems, and access the Internet for equipment and testing updates. Must have the ability to serve and satisfy internal and external customers and be a strong customer service advocate for the company. Working Conditions (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, which may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.) Internal Work is normally performed in an open shop environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is limited. Noise level is occasionally high and includes sounds of power tools. Work involves potential exposure to bodily injury from moving mechanical parts, electric shock and toxic or caustic chemical agents while performing testing or maintenance to transformers. External Work is routinely performed where there is exposure to outside atmospheric conditions or extreme heat/cold or moisture and exposure to traffic while performing transformer tests or hazardous waste removal functions. Physical Demands (The physical effort generally associated with this position.) Work involves standing and walking for extended periods of time, but some duties are performed from a seated position. Work routinely includes pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds such as parts and tools; occasionally includes moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Relationships/Contacts (Positions, other than supervisor and immediate co-workers, with which incumbent has frequent contact and the reason for contact.) Internal Frequent contact with Engineering, Substation Operations, T&D and Purchasing & Inventory personnel regarding the ordering, availability and location of transformers or to schedule tests. Occasional contact with Environmental Manager regarding hazardous waste management or problem resolution. External Occasional contact with commercial account personnel to transformers schedule tests.
