Position Summary:
In accordance with the YMCA's Christian Principles, the Aquatics Leadership Team Member supports the daily operation of the aquatic facility while helping ensure the safety, engagement, and success of all participants and staff. This role combines front-line lifeguarding and swim instruction responsibilities with leadership duties including staff support, scheduling assistance, training coordination, and program operations. This position plays an important role in building a positive aquatic experience while upholding the YMCA's Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
What You'll Do:
  • Support the Aquatics Director with staff supervision, scheduling, and daily operations
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming aquatic environment
  • Average a minimum of 25 hours per week guarding shifts or teaching swim lessons (seasonal adjustments may apply)
  • Average a minimum of 15 hours per week completing leadership duties (not to exceed 40 total hours weekly)
  • Assist with coordinating special events including swim meets, pool parties, and birthday parties
  • Recruit, support, and help train aquatics staff to maintain high safety and program standards
  • Maintain accurate records including water readings, schedules, and cleaning logs
  • Ensure all opening and closing procedures are completed properly
  • Help prepare pools and facilities for inspections
  • Enforce aquatic rules, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Address member concerns professionally and positively
  • Communicate important information to the Aquatics Director in a timely manner
  • Attend and assist with in-service trainings
  • Report facility issues, safety concerns, or policy violations to supervisors
  • Perform additional duties and trainings as assigned

  • Dependable, mature, and safety-focused mindset
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Thorough knowledge of aquatic programming preferred
  • Professional appearance for both leadership and front-line duties
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum of 2 years of aquatics experience required
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross certifications in:
  • Lifeguarding
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • First Aid
  • Must maintain all required certifications throughout employment
