Position OverviewThe successful candidate will have the ability to execute and lead small projects through all phases of design, documentation and administration, as well as actively support large projects within an expanded team setting. This position encourages creativity in problem solving to promote technical and design excellence while ensuring building code and regulatory compliance. Project size, type and responsibility will vary, including renovation and new construction opportunities. This position will require a high level of coordination with others within a team environment. Project work may include all levels of design, including studies, conceptual design, design development, detailed design and construction administration.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead design and technical direction for small projects, ensuring alignment with program, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
Develop schematic through construction documents, including detailed coordination with MEP, structural, and specialty consultants for lab and regulated facilities.
Oversee and enforce Revit/BIM standards, manage model coordination, and produce high-quality deliverables using BIM workflows.
Create and refine visualizations and iterative design studies using Enscape and Rhino to support design decisions and client presentations.
Ensure code compliance with the International Building Code and accessibility standards (ADA); apply OSHA site and safety requirements during design and construction phases.
Serve as primary client contact on assigned projects: cultivate relationships, manage expectations, and lead client meetings and presentations.
Mentor and direct junior architects and technical staff, review drawings and specifications, and provide constructive feedback to raise team capability.
Coordinate sustainable design and certification efforts (LEED, WELL), integrate research-based design strategies, and support documentation for certification processes.
Manage construction administration activities including submittal review, RFI responses, site observation, and punch-list coordination to ensure projects are delivered as intended.
Support business development efforts by assisting in proposals, qualifications, and technical approaches for lab, healthcare, and high-performance building projects.
QualificationsProfessional degree in Architecture and 7+ years of relevant experience; experience with lab, biotech, or pharmaceutical projects strongly preferred.
Active Architectural License (required); NCARB Certification preferred.
Advanced proficiency with Revit and BIM software; proven experience enforcing BIM standards and managing coordinated models.
Strong 3D modeling and visualization skills with Enscape and Rhino, or similar.
Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), ADA accessibility requirements, and OSHA job site safety principles.
Experience designing R D labs, cleanrooms, or biotech/pharma facilities, including understanding of specialized MEP and safety systems.
LEED accreditation and WELL certification preferred; demonstrable experience integrating sustainability and wellness strategies into projects.
Proven client relationship and project leadership skills, including successful delivery of complex projects on time and within budget.
