Job Description
CAD Manager Position Overview We are seeking an experienced CAD Manager to lead our drafting department in a full-time, in-person position based in our Nampa, Idaho office . This position combines technical expertise with leadership and employee development. The CAD Manager will oversee the production of high-quality engineering and surveying deliverables while establishing drafting standards, training employees, and ensuring efficient workflows across the company. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Owners to improve production efficiency, maintain quality standards, and mentor the next generation of engineering and surveying professionals. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee the daily operations of the CAD and modeling department. Supervise, mentor, and support CAD technicians, designers, and engineering/survey staff. Recruit, train, and develop employees while promoting continued professional growth. Coordinate employee performance evaluations and provide regular coaching and feedback. Ensure compliance with company drafting standards and client requirements. Assign work, balance workloads, and monitor project schedules to ensure timely completion. Coordinate project staffing and priorities with project managers and principal owners. Oversee machine control model preparation, review, and final delivery. Conduct pre-production and final quality reviews of plans, models, calculations, and project deliverables. Review and assist with survey staking calculations and construction layout deliverables. Review quantity calculations and take-offs for accuracy. Resolve technical drafting, modeling, and field support issues during project design and construction. Develop and maintain a structured training program for CAD technicians, survey personnel, and engineering staff. Establish onboarding procedures and continuing education plans to improve employee competency and consistency. Promote a culture of continuous learning and process improvement. Process Improvement & Innovation Continually evaluate CAD, surveying, and machine control workflows to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, consistency, and quality. Develop and implement standardized procedures, templates, libraries, and best practices across the organization. Lead implementation of new software, automation tools, and emerging technologies that improve productivity. Identify repetitive tasks suitable for automation through CAD customization, scripting, AI, or other technologies. Monitor production metrics and recommend improvements to reduce errors, increase throughput, and improve profitability. Collaborate with Principal Owners to develop and implement strategic initiatives that improve company operations. Document processes and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and facilitate employee training. Requirements 5+ years of professional experience in engineering or surveying utilizing CAD software (Carlson Software preferred). Previous experience leading or supervising technical employees preferred. Strong background in transportation, civil site development, and surveying. Extensive knowledge of CAD software. Experience with survey calculations, construction staking, and quantity preparation. Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop technical staff. Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Trimble Business Center, Carlson, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or similar civil engineering and surveying software. Familiarity with GPS machine control systems and construction workflows.
