Project Architect - Public Sector Somerville , NJ Full-TimeHybrid$90,000 - $110,000 /yr Posted July 21, 2026 Project Architect Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Project Architect to lead architecture projects from concept through construction with a focus on public sector work. The Project Architect will manage design development, prepare and review construction documentation, coordinate consultants, and serve as a primary client contact to ensure projects meet schedule, budget, regulatory, and quality objectives. Strong Revit/BIM proficiency, public sector experience, and an architectural license are required. Key Responsibilities Lead architectural projects through schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases. Develop and coordinate Revit/BIM models and produce detailed construction documents, drawings, and specifications. Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams (structural, MEP, civil, landscape) and integrate their deliverables into the overall project. Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables; identify and mitigate risks to meet client and regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary client liaison for public sector clients, including attending meetings, presenting designs, and responding to public procurement and compliance processes. Ensure code compliance, accessibility (ADA), and municipal permitting requirements are incorporated into project design and documentation. Conduct quality control reviews of drawings and specifications, and review shop drawings and submittals during construction. Mentor junior staff, provide review and feedback on documentation, and support team development and training. Participate in project pursuits, develop proposals, scope of work, and fee estimates for public sector projects. Collaborate with design leadership to advance conceptual design and translate design intent into constructible solutions. Qualifications Licensed Architect (RA, AIA membership preferred) with 5+ years of experience in project architect roles; demonstrable experience on public sector projects. Proficiency in Revit and strong BIM coordination skills; experience producing construction documents within Revit workflows. Proven track record managing projects through all phases, including construction administration and client coordination. Solid understanding of building codes, ADA requirements, and public sector procurement / permitting processes. Excellent design sensibility and ability to translate conceptual design into detailed documentation (Design and Documentation skills). Strong technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills; experience working directly with clients and public stakeholders. Experience or credentials in sustainability and construction knowledge (LEED experience preferred). Certifications such as CDT and CCCA are a plus; prior experience as a Project Manager or in project leadership is desirable. Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree from an accredited program and commitment to continuing professional development. Ability to travel to project sites, attend client meetings, and coordinate with consultants as required. For this position you must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
