Position Summary The Job Captain is the technical production leader responsible for coordinating the day-to-day execution of architectural projects. Working under the direction of the Project Architect or Project Manager, this role oversees construction document production, consultant coordination, BIM implementation, quality control, and mentoring of production staff to ensure accurate, coordinated, and timely project delivery. Essential Responsibilities Plan, organize, and direct architectural production from schematic design through construction documents. Prepare and oversee complete construction documents, including plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, code analyses, and accessibility documentation. Coordinate architectural documents with structural, MEP, civil, landscape, interior, and specialty consultants, lead interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and resolve conflicts. Serve as the project BIM lead by maintaining models, enforcing BIM standards, coordinating consultant models, and supporting clash detection. Perform building code analysis, life safety reviews, and accessibility coordination, and assist with permitting and plan review responses. Develop technical solutions, resolve constructability issues, and coordinate building systems integration. Lead quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure document accuracy, consistency, and compliance with firm standards. Support construction administration through the review of RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, ASIs, site observations, punch lists, and project closeout. Coordinate production schedules, monitor workloads, communicate project status, and assist with budgets and resource planning. Mentor Architectural Associates and Designers by assigning work, reviewing drawings, providing technical guidance, and supporting staff development. Participate in client, consultant, and agency meetings while supporting firm initiatives, BIM standards, technical training, recruiting, and process improvements. Education Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution. Experience 5-10 years of progressively responsible architectural experience, with demonstrated expertise in construction documentation, consultant coordination, and all phases of project delivery. Technical Skills Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, Navisworks, rendering software, Adobe Creative Suite, and project management software is preferred. Technical Knowledge Extensive knowledge of building construction, construction documents, building systems, structural and MEP coordination, accessibility requirements, building codes, specifications, and sustainable design principles.
