Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Senior Project Architect / Manager acts as the primary point of contact for clients, leading project execution while driving quality design, technical precision, and financial performance. Designed for an experienced architect who excels at combining hands-on technical design with client management and team leadership, this role balances daily project administration with direct engagement throughout every design and construction phase. Operating under the Director of Architecture, the Senior Project Architect manages budgets, resources, and schedules while actively mentoring junior staff, coordinating subconsultant teams, and upholding the firm's standards across all assigned projects.
Essential Function:
Primary point of contact for Clients. Responsible for managing project resources (both internal and external), budget, and schedule. Coordinates design and production of documents during each design phase of assigned projects. Acts as Construction Administrator as specific project scope services may require.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Management & Project Delivery Represents the firm to Clients of assigned projects. Directs assigned resources to execute projects effectively. Administrates Owner-Architect and Architect-Consultant Agreements. Maintains strong relationships with Clients, Subconsultants, Contractors, and internal team members. Communicates Client/project requirements across all affected project teams.
Leadership & Team Oversight:
Trains and mentors junior staff members. Reports regularly to the Director on staff progress and project performance. Coordinates design and documentation with subconsultants and internal teams. Communicates status updates throughout design, bidding, permitting, and construction phases.
Financial & Scope Management:
Manages project budget status, monitoring effort vs. budgeted hours and dollars. Assists Director in developing project proposals, agreements, presentations, schedules, and budgets. Oversees design, detailing, and specification writing for assigned projects. Executes Construction Administration duties as required. Performs building and zoning code analysis and technical reviews. Creates Facility Assessment Reports and Detailed Design Memorandums. Tracks project schedule relative to earned value. Manages performance of work outside of original project scope with Clients. Reviews and approves invoices to Clients and from subconsultants.
Technical & Professional Qualifications:
Minimum 5-year degree in Architecture from an accredited NAAB program. 10+ years of full-time professional architectural experience. Architectural License / Registration is preferred (a huge plus), but not strictly required. Strong technical skills in architectural design, construction details, and document production. Proficient user of AutoCAD (required); Revit experience preferred.
Communication & Leadership:
Provides clear direction and actionable feedback to team members. Promptly identifies and communicates project risks to leadership. Prepares formal written correspondence; leads Client interviews and project meetings.
