MMA Architects is a multi-sector architectural firm with expertise in retail, mixed-use development, commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, hospitality, and residential design. While our work spans a wide range of markets, this opportunity is within our growing Retail Studio, where we support some of the nation's largest retail brands through every phase of project delivery. Based in our Summerville, South Carolina office, you'll play a key role in the technical execution of projects ranging from ground-up stores and major expansions to remodels, tenant improvements, and prototype rollouts across the United States. As an Architectural Job Captain, you'll work closely with Project Managers to coordinate construction documents, consultants, and internal project teams while ensuring projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, coordinating complex projects, and preparing for future project management responsibilities. What You'll Do Lead the preparation and coordination of construction documents using Revit. Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, MEP, civil, and specialty consultants. Develop floor plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and project documentation. Review construction documents for quality, accuracy, and coordination before project milestones. Assist Project Managers with project schedules, deliverables, and consultant coordination. Perform code research and apply building code, accessibility, and life safety requirements. Support permit submissions and responses to agency review comments. Participate in construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittal reviews, shop drawing reviews, and field observations. Mentor entry-level architects and designers on project documentation, Revit standards, and best practices. Help maintain and improve prototype standards, drawing quality, and production workflows. Who You Are You're a technically strong architect who enjoys bringing projects together. You understand that great construction documents are the result of careful coordination, attention to detail, and teamwork. You enjoy solving problems before they reach the field, coordinating consultants, and helping younger team members grow. What We're Looking For Experience & Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program. Minimum of 5 years of professional architectural experience. Architectural registration preferred or actively pursuing licensure. Authorized to work in the United States. Experience preparing commercial construction documents is required. Experience with commercial retail projects is strongly preferred. Experience with prototype-based projects or national retail programs is a plus. Technical Skills High proficiency in Revit; AutoCAD experience is a plus. Strong understanding of construction document preparation and architectural detailing. Experience coordinating drawings with structural, MEP, civil, and specialty consultants. Working knowledge of commercial building systems, building codes, accessibility requirements, and permitting processes. Experience with construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and consultant coordination. Professional Skills Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Success in This Role Within your first year, you will: Become the technical lead on multiple national retail projects. Deliver coordinated construction documents with minimal revisions. Build strong working relationships with consultants and internal project teams. Improve drawing quality, coordination, and production efficiency across multiple projects.
