Job Description

Architectural Job Captain About Us Townsend Residential Design is a small residential design studio in Healdsburg. We design custom homes, additions, ADUs, and substantial remodels for clients throughout Sonoma County. Our projects are thoughtful, carefully detailed, and they get built. We are a team of three. No bureaucracy, no layers, and no wondering whether your work matters. What you draw gets permitted and built, usually within a year of you drawing it. The Role We are looking for someone to own the day-to-day production of our projects. You will build and maintain our Revit models, produce design development and construction document sets, incorporate consultant drawings, respond to plan check corrections, and keep our drawing standards sharp. You will work directly alongside the Principal in our Healdsburg studio and collaborate remotely with our Project Manager, who leads technical direction and quality control. What You Will Do Model and document residential projects in Revit from design development through permit Draw residential details: wall sections, assemblies, waterproofing, flashing, stairs, windows and doors Incorporate structural, civil, Title 24, and survey documents into the set and catch conflicts before submittal Prepare responses to plan check corrections and manage revisions Keep models, sheets, and files organized to our standard Maintain and improve our templates, families, and standard details Manage your own production workload and flag schedule risk early What We Are Looking For Three to six years producing residential construction documents Genuine Revit fluency, not just competence. You should be the person others come to when a model gets messy. Real experience detailing wood frame residential construction Working familiarity with the California Residential Code, Title 24 basics, and the plan check process Someone who catches problems before they reach the Principal Someone who can plan and manage their own week without daily direction Someone who takes visible pride in a clean, coordinated, well organized set A degree and a license are not required. What you can actually do matters more to us than what is on paper. If you learned this work by doing it, we want to talk to you. What This Job Is Not This is a production seat. Design direction sits with the Principal. Technical leadership, code interpretation, and quality control sit with the Project Manager. If you are looking for a pure design role or a technical leadership role, this is not that job, and we would rather tell you now than waste your time. If you want to become excellent at execution, carry real projects through documentation and permitting, and grow toward Senior Job Captain and eventually Project Manager, this is a very good seat to be in.
Compensation and Benefits Hourly rate:
$40.00 to $45.00 depending on experience. Roughly $83,200 to $93,600 annualized.
Performance bonus:
An annual performance bonus tied to clear written goals you will see on day one.
Health reimbursement:
$350 per month, tax free, toward your individual health premiums.
Paid time off:
Paid vacation plus paid sick leave.
Equipment and software:
Workstation, monitors, and full Autodesk licensing provided.
Overtime:
Paid at time and a half when approved in advance. Location and Schedule Forty hours per week in our Healdsburg studio while you get up to speed, then up to two days a week remote once you are independently producing construction documents at our standard. That is a goal you can reach, not a date we make you wait for. If you have a real track record of remote production work with references who can confirm it, we will consider a fully remote arrangement for the right person. Tell us in your application. Why This Job Is Worth Your Time You will own real work. Not a corner of someone else's sheet set. You will work directly with the Principal every day. The design work is good and the clients care about it. A clear path to Senior Job Captain and Project Manager. If you already live in northern Sonoma County, this is a short commute instead of a long one. How to Apply Send three things to resumes@townsendresidential.
com:
Your resume. Work samples that show construction documents, not renderings. We want to see floor plans, cross-sections, wall sections, details, sheet organization, etc. Tell us clearly what you personally drew. A short answer to this question: describe a coordination problem you caught before it reached a plan checker or a client. How did you catch it? Townsend Residential Design is an equal opportunity employer. We do not ask about salary history.
