Job Description

Position Summary The Base Foreman / Grader Foreman is a working foreman responsible for operating a motor grader and leading the crew in the placement, grading, shaping, and finishing of base materials. This position works alongside the crew daily to ensure base courses are constructed to plan specifications, proper grade, and compaction requirements while maintaining a safe and productive job site. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate a motor grader to fine grade roads, building pads, parking lots, and other sitework projects. Lead and work alongside crew members during base installation and grading operations. Read and understand plans, grade stakes, GPS machine control systems, and project specifications. Establish and maintain proper line, grade, cross-slope, and drainage. Coordinate with equipment operators, roller operators, truck drivers, and laborers to maintain efficient workflow. Monitor material placement and make adjustments to achieve proper thickness and finish. Verify completed work meets project tolerances and quality standards. Assist with daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance. Identify and communicate grade issues, conflicts, or field conditions that may impact production. Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company safety procedures. Train less experienced operators on grading techniques and jobsite expectations. Support project production goals through efficient equipment operation and crew coordination. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience operating a motor grader in road construction, site development, or heavy civil construction. Strong understanding of base construction, compaction, drainage, and grading principles. Experience using GPS machine control systems preferred. Ability to read construction plans and understand survey staking. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in the field. Valid driver's license required. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work extended hours as project schedules require. Preferred Characteristics Takes pride in producing high-quality finished grades. Leads by example through work ethic and productivity. Works well with operators, laborers, and project supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Dependable, self-motivated, and solution-oriented.
Pay:
$24.00 - $28.00 per hour
