The Asphalt Screed Operator is responsible for operating and controlling the screed on an asphalt paver to achieve proper mat thickness, grade, slope, and smoothness. This position is critical to final pavement quality and requires precision, teamwork, and accountability. The Screed Operator is also responsible for maintaining screed components and supporting overall crew performance. Key Responsibilities

• Operate and control the screed to maintain specified mat thickness, grade, and slope
• Adjust screed extensions, crown, and angle of attack in response to paving conditions
• Monitor asphalt flow across the screed and correct segregation or uneven distribution
• Check grade and surface smoothness using hand tools and visual alignment
• Assist with head-of-mat adjustments, joints, and transitions
• Perform daily inspections, cleaning, and routine maintenance of screed components
• Coordinate closely with the paver operator, roller operators, and foreman to maintain quality and pace
• Follow all safety policies and job-site regulations General Expectations
• Operate as a team player and assist with handwork, cleanup, and rolling coordination as needed
• Take pride in equipment care and immediately report mechanical or performance issues
• Maintain punctuality, consistent attendance, and job-site readiness
• Use required PPE at all times and promote a safety-first culture
• Maintain focus, professionalism, and attention to detail throughout the workday

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work extended hours, including overtime when required.
• Construction job sites with exposure to moving equipment, traffic, dust, noise, and hot asphalt materials.
• Frequent travel between project locations may be required.
• Overtime and weekend work may be necessary during peak construction seasons.
