Job Description
The Asphalt Paver Operator/Project Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Lake Charles, LA. This position is responsible for operating asphalt paving machines to lay, spread, and level asphalt on roads, parking lots, and other surfaces according to project specifications. Day-to-day tasks include setting up and inspecting paving equipment, monitoring material flow and mat quality, and making adjustments to controls to ensure smooth, even surfaces. The operator works closely with the paving crew to coordinate truck movements, maintain a safe work zone, and follow all safety and quality standards. Additional responsibilities may include basic equipment maintenance, reporting any mechanical issues, and assisting the crew with general labor tasks when needed. Qualifications Experience operating asphalt pavers or similar heavy construction equipment, with strong understanding of paving techniques and machine controls. Knowledge of road construction processes, asphalt materials, compaction requirements, and job site safety practices. Ability to read and follow project instructions, grades, and measurements, with attention to detail and quality standards. Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, stand for extended periods, and perform moderately strenuous tasks. Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a reliable work ethic and commitment to punctuality and safety. Basic mechanical aptitude to perform routine equipment checks and identify potential issues for maintenance personnel. Valid driver's license; and/or prior asphalt paving or road construction experience preferred. Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, depending on project needs.
