$20 - $24 per hour (Depending on experience and Asphalt field certifications)
Job Description:
Francis O. Day Co., Inc., a respected paving and excavation company that operates in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking a skilled Asphalt Field Technician to join our team. A successful candidate for this role will be responsible for supporting asphalt paving operations on construction projects by performing quality control testing, operating machinery, and ensuring materials meet required specifications. This role works closely with field crews, project managers, and lab personnel to maintain high standards in material placement and compaction.
Job Duties:
Perform field sampling and testing of asphalt materials following AASHTO, ASTM, or state (e.g., SHA) specifications Operating field truck which will be pick-up at Forestville plant. Ensure compaction and placement meet project and agency standards. Record and report field data accurately and promptly using tablets or written logs. Communicate with paving crew and supervisors to resolve quality or production issues. Maintain tools, equipment, and safety gear in good working order. Adhere to all safety procedures, PPE guidelines, and environmental regulations. Assist with equipment set-up, traffic control, or general labor duties when necessary.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred Prior experience in asphalt testing or paving operations (strongly preferred) Ability to interpret project specifications and technical documents Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Basic knowledge of construction math and documentation practices Ability to lift 50+ lbs., stand/walk for long periods, and work in varying outdoor conditions Willingness to travel to multiple job sites throughout Maryland May require overtime, night shifts, or weekend work during peak seasons
Work Environment:
Outdoor construction environment; exposure to traffic, dust, and noise Physical ability to work under extremes temperatures (hot and cold) for extended hours of time.
