This position is responsible for operating and adjusting the screed on an asphalt paver to ensure proper grade, depth, slope, width, and overall quality of the finished pavement. The ideal candidate has hands-on asphalt paving experience, understands proper paving techniques, and takes pride in producing a smooth, high-quality finished product. Responsibilities Operate and control the screed on an asphalt paving machine. Adjust screed settings to maintain proper grade, depth, slope, width, and asphalt thickness . Monitor asphalt flow and make adjustments to maintain a consistent mat. Ensure proper joint construction, transitions, tie-ins, and finished pavement quality. Work closely with the Paver Operator, Foreman, and paving crew to maintain consistent production. Monitor material conditions and identify issues that could affect paving quality. Assist with setting and maintaining automatic grade and slope controls. Perform handwork and other paving duties when necessary. Inspect the screed and paving equipment before and during operations. Assist with cleaning and routine maintenance of the paver and screed. Follow all company safety policies and jobsite procedures. Communicate equipment, material, or quality concerns to the Foreman. Maintain awareness of surrounding equipment, trucks, crew members, and jobsite conditions. Help maintain an efficient paving operation and minimize unnecessary stops or delays. Qualifications Previous experience as a Paver Screed Operator or significant asphalt paving experience required. Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques and proper screed operation. Knowledge of grade, slope, depth, compaction, joints, and asphalt placement. Experience with automatic grade and slope controls preferred. Ability to identify and correct mat imperfections during paving operations. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a paving crew. Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and active construction sites. Valid driver's license preferred. Must be dependable and available for early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime as project schedules require.
