An Asphalt Worker, Screed Worker, or Paver operates machinery used to apply and repair different types of pavement, such as asphalt, concrete, or stone pavers.
Empire Paving LLC Cleveland, Ohio Local asphalt company is seeking an experienced Excavation / Site Prep Foreman to lead excavation and site-preparation operations for our commercial asphalt paving projects throughout Northeast Ohio. We are looking for a working foreman and leader who understands how to take a project from existing conditions through excavation, grading and stone preparation and have it 100% ready for the paving crew. This is a key field leadership position. The right person understands production, takes ownership of their projects and knows that the quality of the finished pavement starts with the quality of the preparation underneath it.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and manage excavation and site-prep crews on commercial paving projects Plan the day's work, organize manpower and equipment, and keep the crew productive Perform and oversee excavation, undercutting, grading and stone installation Establish and maintain proper subgrade and aggregate base elevations Understand drainage, pitch, elevations and water flow Read construction plans, site plans, grading plans and specifications Work from benchmarks, elevations and grade information Understand proper compaction procedures for subgrade and aggregate base Identify unsuitable soils and field conditions and communicate necessary corrective work Calculate and manage excavation quantities, stone requirements and trucking needs Coordinate trucks, operators, laborers and equipment to maximize production Operate excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders and other heavy equipment when necessary Coordinate closely with Empire's project managers, superintendent and paving crews Make sure projects are properly prepared and ready when the paving crew arrives Maintain a clean, organized and safe jobsite Perform daily equipment inspections and ensure equipment is properly cared for Track production and communicate job progress, problems and additional work Recognize potential change-order work and communicate it before the work is buried or completed Take ownership of the job from start through completion
EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR
5+ years of excavation, site development, heavy civil or commercial paving/site-prep experience preferred, with proven foreman or crew-lead experience. The ideal candidate has strong experience with: Commercial parking lot excavation and reconstruction Full-depth pavement removal and replacement Subgrade preparation Aggregate base installation Fine grading for asphalt paving Undercutting and stabilization Drainage and catch-basin work Excavation around existing utilities Compaction and proof rolling Reading plans and understanding elevations Heavy equipment operation Managing crews, trucking and daily production Experience with GPS/machine-control grading technology is a major plus.
