•$24.00 / hour Overview Harris County Precinct 1 is seeking an Asphalt Operator III to perform essential road and drainage maintenance across the precinct. This position operates light to heavy construction equipment, assists paving crews, sets up traffic control, and supports daily roadway maintenance tasks including pothole repair, asphalt paving, and crack sealing. The role may step into a crew leader capacity as needed to guide daily field operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Roadway & Drainage Maintenance:
Perform routine and emergency road maintenance, including pothole patching, asphalt repair, debris removal, and traffic sign placement/repair.
Heavy Equipment Operation:
Safely operate light and heavy equipment, including pick-up trucks, asphalt rollers, milling machines, pavers, emulsion distributors, excavators, motor graders, front-end loaders, crack sealers, patch trucks, and power tools.
Paving Operations & Traffic Control:
Set up traffic control zones; direct backing/dumping trucks into the paver; shoveling, raking, and asphalt finishing duties.
Fleet Inspection & Care:
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, monitor and top off fluid levels, maintain cleanliness of equipment and job sites, and report mechanical defects promptly.
Operational Leadership & Reporting:
Document daily work completed; assist the crew leader in directing team activities and act as crew leader when required.
Qualifications & Requirements Educational Mandate:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience Required:
Five (5) years of asphalt road maintenance experience is preferred.
Mandatory Licensure & Credentials:
Active Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement.
Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License.
Subject to background check and driving record verification.
Background Requirements:
Candidates must pass a drug screen and background check. Due to the nature of the employer's business, company policy requires that candidates with a criminal background will not be considered for employment.
