Based in Durham, CT, we specialize in high-end residential outdoor living projects, including natural stone patios, walkways, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, pool patios, steps, veneer, and custom stone features. For more than 25 years, we have built our reputation on craftsmanship, organization, and attention to detail. Our work is not basic construction. We build premium outdoor spaces for homeowners who expect quality, communication, and pride in the finished product. We are hiring experienced Senior Masons who can take ownership of complex masonry work, help lead crews in the field, and set the standard for quality on every job site. Position Overview The Senior Mason is a hands-on field leadership role responsible for executing high-quality masonry work while helping guide and mentor other crew members. This person should be highly skilled in natural stone, pavers, block, concrete products, walls, steps, patios, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, and other hardscape features. The right candidate is not only an excellent craftsperson but also someone who understands job site flow, takes pride in clean and accurate work, communicates well with Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers, and helps younger masons develop their skills. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor masonry crew members on active job sites Construct patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, pool patios, veneer, and custom stone features Perform high-quality installation of natural stone, pavers, block, concrete products, caps, coping, and related hardscape materials Read and interpret project plans, layouts, measurements, elevations, and field instructions Lay out work accurately and confirm that installation aligns with project drawings and field conditions Help manage daily job site workflow so crews stay productive, organized, and on task Coordinate with Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, and other field leaders Identify field issues early and communicate solutions before problems become delays Train and develop crew members in proper masonry techniques, tool use, production standards, and safety practices Maintain high standards for craftsmanship, alignment, pitch, cuts, joints, finishes, and overall appearance Operate hand tools, saws, compactors, levels, laser levels, and other masonry-related equipment safely Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site Follow company safety standards and help ensure crew members are working safely Protect client property, existing landscape features, completed work, equipment, and materials Represent Torrison Stone & Garden professionally on high-end residential properties What We Expect From You You take pride in craftsmanship and do not cut corners You can lead by example and keep others moving without creating unnecessary conflict You understand that quality, safety, speed, and job site organization all matter You are comfortable working on detailed residential projects where the finished product must look excellent You communicate clearly with supervisors and crew members You can identify problems in the field and help solve them before they slow the project down You are dependable, punctual, and prepared to work every day You understand that senior-level masons are expected to help raise the skill level of the crew around them Requirements 5+ years of masonry or hardscape construction experience required Strong experience with natural stone, pavers, block, walls, steps, patios, and related hardscape construction Experience leading or mentoring other crew members preferred Ability to read plans, layouts, measurements, and job-site instructions Valid driver's license required Authorized to work in the United States English speaking required Spanish/English bilingual ability is a plus Ability to lift 75+ lbs and perform physically demanding outdoor work Comfortable working in changing weather conditions Strong awareness of job site safety, tools, equipment, and material handling Reliable transportation to company yard or assigned job location Schedule This is a full-time position. Work is generally Monday through Friday with seasonal overtime and Saturdays as needed based on workload, project schedules, and weather conditions. Pay:
$23.00 - $45.00 per hour
