starting $30 per hour or agreed project price, based on experience and scope of work About the Opportunity An established specialty construction and building-services company is seeking an experienced independent Mason for commercial and multifamily residential projects throughout South Florida. The work primarily involves the demolition, construction, rebuilding and repair of CMU block walls surrounding mechanical openings, equipment areas and vertical shafts. Many projects are completed in occupied condominium buildings and must meet approved plans and inspection requirements. We are looking for a reliable contractor who takes pride in their workmanship, understands proper masonry installation and can complete assigned work independently and according to schedule. Scope of Work Demolish existing CMU block walls and masonry sections safely Build, rebuild and repair concrete block walls Install solid and hollow CMU blocks according to approved plans Construct fire-rated masonry assemblies where required Prepare openings and walls for the installation or replacement of building equipment Complete work in phases when access to an opening must remain available for other trades Mix and apply mortar using proper masonry techniques Cut and fit blocks around existing structures, equipment and building conditions Install reinforcement, anchors, ties and related components when specified Coordinate work with project managers, engineers, inspectors and other trades Review drawings, measurements and project requirements before beginning work Prepare completed masonry work for required inspections Return after inspections to close remaining openings or complete the walls Protect occupied areas and surrounding property during construction Maintain a clean and safe work area Provide regular progress updates and promptly report field conditions or delays Required Experience and Qualifications At least three years of professional masonry and CMU block experience Demonstrated experience constructing and repairing concrete block walls Ability to independently measure, lay out, cut and install CMU blocks Knowledge of mortar preparation, reinforcement and proper masonry practices Ability to read basic construction plans, measurements and specifications Experience with controlled demolition and rebuilding Understanding of fire-rated wall assemblies Ability to produce level, plumb and inspection-ready work Ability to work independently and coordinate with other construction trades Reliable transportation and ability to travel to projects throughout South Florida Ability to safely lift and handle blocks, mortar and construction equipment Professional conduct when working in occupied residential buildings Legal authorization to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications Experience working in condominium or multifamily residential buildings Experience completing masonry work around mechanical openings or vertical shafts Familiarity with municipal building inspections OSHA safety training Ability to provide photographs or examples of previous masonry work Relevant contractor licence or registration, where required Contractor Requirements The selected contractor may be required to provide: Proof of general liability insurance Proof of workers' compensation coverage or a valid exemption, as applicable Completed Form W-9 Any licence or registration required for the assigned work Appropriate masonry tools and personal protective equipment Professional references Written estimates and invoices Photographs documenting completed work Compensation The anticipated contractor rate is $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and the requirements of each project. Fixed project pricing may also be considered. Any project price must clearly identify the labour included, estimated completion time, exclusions and any additional charges that could apply. Travel time, mileage, tolls, parking, materials and project-specific expenses will be discussed and agreed upon in writing before work begins.
