Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 300 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, Life Safety Services, and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. Campus Maintenance operates, maintains and improves the physical environment of the University through a complete line of shop services that include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, insulation, preventive maintenance and special laboratory equipment repair. . This position supports the Facilities Services Mason Shop, which provides total maintenance, service and repair to all campus buildings including building masonry walks, steps, ramps, all general concrete work, brick sidewalks, making various rock wall repairs, and all types of masonry tile repairs and step nosing on campus buildings. Applicant must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines:
Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Management Preferences Demonstrated journey level masonry experience. Required Licenses/Certifications Applicant must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds; ability to move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds; work with hands above head for extended periods of time; and ability to crawl on hands and knees, and bend and stoop. Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions, including but not limited to a public health emergency, may require the University to close.
