Birdseye is seeking a reliable and experienced Equipment Operator to join our excavation team. The Equipment Operator will safely operate heavy equipment on a variety of construction and excavation projects, including site preparation, utility installation, grading, trenching, road construction, and land development. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and backhoes. Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handling operations according to project plans and specifications. Work around underground utilities and maintain awareness of utility locates and site hazards. Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and project layouts. Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required maintenance reports. Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and cleaning. Coordinate with foremen, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members to ensure efficient project completion. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices. Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and project issues. Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance activities. Assist with other construction and excavation tasks as needed. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in excavation, construction, or related industries. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to safely operate a variety of construction equipment. Knowledge of excavation practices, utility installation, grading, and site development is a plus. Strong understanding of workplace safety requirements and hazard recognition. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong work ethic, willingness to learn and take constructive feedback. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications CDL (Commercial Driver's License). OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Certification. Experience with GPS machine control systems and laser grading equipment. Experience working around underground utilities, water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Willingness to work extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends as required by project schedules. Vision and hearing sufficient to safely operate heavy equipment and maintain awareness of surrounding hazards. Work Environment Outdoor construction and excavation sites.
