Job Description

Job Description FTG Builders is a General Contractor based in Santa Clara, CA., specializing in Healthcare construction and higher education serving California, Nevada, and Arizona. FTG is growing and are looking for experienced candidates for the Carpenter position. Thank you for considering FTG and take a look at the list of responsibilities. We look forward to reviewing your resume. Objectives of this Role Commercial construction carpenter in a hospital setting. Knowledgeable and installation of infection control containments. Must be a team player, communicate with coworkers, subs and execute tasks efficiently. Responsibilities and duties Follow all safety guidelines, PPE Standards, and job site regulations. Safely use hand tools, operate power tools, and equipment safely and efficiently. Maintain work area cleanliness and inspection ready at all times. Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, patching, and priming independently. Paint, stain, or apply coatings using brushes, rollers, or sprayers independently. Execute all phases of drywall installation, including hanging, patch work, taping, and finishing independently. Independently, build and maintain containments and follow ICRA requirements. Install metal frame soffits, box headers, doors, and install backing as per blue prints and details with assistance. Assist room level or area level scope including demolition based on blueprints, and layouts. Layout walls, doors, and overhead MEP with limited assistance. Install door, frame, and hardware involving varying fire ratings and advanced specifications with supervision. Independently, install wall accessories and wall coverings (FRP, Acrovyn, etc.). Independently remove and install ceiling tiles and perform minor T bar modifications. Maintain and repair fire rated wall assemblies, regarding drywall, penetrations, doors, frames, hardware installation and fire caulking, per approved systems. Independently install code compliant anchoring and Unistrut installation. Complete routine OSHA Toolbox Talks and training as assigned. Complete weekly administrative tasks such as timecards. Other related duties as assigned. Required skills and qualifications Working knowledge of ADA requirements affecting wall layouts, openings, and finishes; Knowledge of ADA mounting heights and clearance. Working knowledge of work around power, water, fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and nurse call systems. Capacity to assist with the planning and execution of system shutdowns. Ability to read and understand fire-rated wall schedules on construction drawings and understand required fire-resistance wall assembly requirements of drywall, penetrations, doors, frames, hardware as directed. Capacity to identify basic to moderate MEP conflicts within work scope and provide resolutions. Capacity to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and details using tech software. Capacity to create and submit as required field documentation including Pre-task Plans and Daily Reports. Maintain a high sense of professionalism in sensitive or occupied environments. Clear communicator and ability to coordinate with subcontractors, PMs, PEs, and clients as required. Preferred skills and qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience required in commercial construction Must have and maintain active OSHA 10-hour certification or willing to pursue certification Basic computer skills to utilize company and project applications (e.g. iPad) Working knowledge of underground MEP trenching and grade setting. Basic fundamentals of concrete form setting, rebar, concrete pour and finish. Hiring Requirements High School Diploma or higher. Current Driver's License and auto insurance. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time up (8 to 14 hours) and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions including ascending and descending ladders and working in confined spaces. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity, multi limb coordination, as well as the ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing 25-50lbs. Work Environment This position is performed in active construction site environments. Jobsite work may involve exposure to construction noise, dust, moving equipment, airborne particles, elevated work areas, varying weather conditions, and confined spaces. While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and potential electrical hazards. Strict adherence to all company safety policies and the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) is expected at all times.
