Job Description
Marine Carpenter - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA Job Description As a Marine Carpenter, you will mill wood blocking from blueprints and measurement tables for dry-dock to accommodate ships. You will measure, cut, and fit plywood on-site for environmental and deck protection, as well as fabricate and install various wooden and GRP components on ships. Measure, cut, and fit wood blanking protection. Fabricate DC plugs for hull penetration protection. Fabricate repairs and install doors, cabinets, wood handrails, ladders, shipping crates, and GRP handrails. Fabricate, modify and install false deck panels (Nomex). Fabricate wood blocking for boat davits. Perform finish work such as adding formic to metal tables and laying down linoleum. Perform general shipyard building construction and repair. Complete other job tasks as assigned relevant to the trade. Essential Skills Proficiency in carpentry, finish carpentry, fabrication, and installation. Experience with framing, drywall, and rough carpentry. Basic rough and finish carpentry skills including framing and cabinet making. Knowledge of safely operating all shop machinery and hand and power tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school or equivalent education certificate required. AA degree from junior college or apprenticeship program for journeyman preferred. Minimum of two years experience required, three to five years preferred. Ability to operate high-reaching equipment. Capability to work at heights, in confined spaces, on board ships, and on any shift. Flexibility to work 1st and 2nd shift (1st shift: 6:30 am - 3 pm / 2nd shift: 3:30 pm - 12 am). Ability to hear warning signals and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings. Why Work Here? The role involves operating shop machinery and hand and power tools safely. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
