Apply now and join the city that's building careers and shaping a stronger tomorrow! Performs the installation, maintenance and repair of rough and finished carpentry. Employee performs skilled work requiring the use of standard trade practices and hand, bench and power driven woodworking tools and machinery; Employee is responsible for ensuring all work is performed in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements; work is performed with a considerable amount of independence and may lead and/or instruct unskilled or semiskilled assistants, but confers with supervisor when necessary; work is periodically inspected during progress or upon completion for workmanship and general compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Installs, maintains and repairs all types of building related materials on city facilities. Inspects and repairs roofs, windows and building envelopes on all types of structures. Performs carpenter preventative maintenance on all types of buildings, structures, office furniture etc. May provide 24-hour emergency on-call support. Plans, designs, and prepares floor plans for building permits. Operates heavy equipment and machinery as designated by assigned work orders, e. g., forklift, scissor lift, bucket truck etc.
Related tasks:
Provides material lists. Maintains records and processes work orders. Orders parts, supplies and equipment. Provides estimates for work being proposed. Performs related tasks as required. Paints, stains and varnishes finished woodwork and other surfaces. Performs general carpentry work in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, Lifeguard Towers, and concrete forms. Knowledge of:
General carpentry practices and Florida Building Code Qualities, characteristics, and uses of various types of wood Care and use of hand tools, power tools, and related equipment Occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions in the carpentry trade Skilled in: Estimating time, material quantities, and costs for carpentry projects Performing manual labor for extended periods of time Working from sketches, drawings, and blueprints Maintaining accurate records, logs, and reports Ability to: Understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions Work overtime as needed or directed Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school; Certificate of completion of vocational/technical certification in carpentry work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program; Four (4) years of experience in the major elements of the trade.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
General Contractors, Building Contractors or Specialty License.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in the last three (3) years. Abstained from the use of cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products for at least one year prior to their date of hire and shall abstain from the use of tobacco products at all times during the period of their employment with the City while both on and off duty. Must be able to work a variable five (5) day schedule within a seven (7) day week.
