Job Overview We are seeking a talented and motivated Scenic Carpenter to join our dynamic production team. In this role, you will construct, install, and maintain scenic elements for theatrical productions, film, television, and live events. Your expertise will help bring imaginative stage designs to life, ensuring safety, precision, and artistic excellence. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a creative environment where craftsmanship meets performance. The ideal candidate is passionate about set construction, skilled in carpentry and fabrication, and eager to contribute to memorable productions. Responsibilities Interpret and follow detailed blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings using CAD software such as AutoCAD and SketchUp to build scenic elements accurately. Construct set pieces, performance props, and stage rigging using hand tools, power tools, and heavy-lifting techniques while following safe work practices. Fabricate scenic components from wood, foam, fabric, and metal, ensuring durability and aesthetic quality aligned with production design specifications. Perform scenic painting and finishing techniques using Adobe Photoshop, color theory, and methods such as construction painting and scenic painting. Install and assemble scenery on stage or in designated venues following blueprint specifications; ensure proper rigging for stage safety. Maintain a clean and organized workspace; manage manual handling tasks efficiently while following safety protocols for heavy lifting and equipment use. Collaborate closely with the art direction team to realize the visual arts concept through set design elements that enhance storytelling and audience engagement. Skills Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD and SketchUp for designing scenic layouts. Strong knowledge of carpentry, set construction, woodworking, and fabrication techniques. Experience with scenic painting methods including color theory application and surface finishing. Skilled in safely using hand tools, power tools (such as drills and saws), ladders, rigging equipment, and other construction tools. Ability to read blueprints accurately; understand technical drawings for precise execution of set pieces. Familiarity with stage rigging systems, lighting design integration, and interior design principles relevant to theater or live event environments. Knowledge of safe work practices related to manual handling, heavy lifting, scaffolding use, and working at heights. Experience in scenic arts, including performance prop creation and theatrical set dressing. Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills; able to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
