ABOUT US
McLeod Contracting & Design is a licensed general contractor (CBC1268233) based in Navarre, Florida. We specialize in residential additions, renovations, custom construction, and light commercial projects throughout Northwest Florida. We are growing our in-house field team and looking for an experienced Lead Framer/Carpenter who can take ownership of framing and carpentry work from layout through completion. This position is for someone who can read plans, perform layout, lead framing activities, solve field conditions, and keep work moving without constant supervision. This is not an entry-level framing position. We are looking for an experienced carpenter who is ready to lead in the field.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead day-to-day framing and carpentry activities on residential and light commercial projects Read and interpret architectural and structural plans Perform framing layout directly from construction drawings Lay out walls, openings, floor systems, roof systems, and structural components Frame wood and light-gauge metal walls as required by project scope Frame walls, floors, roofs, additions, tenant improvements, and structural modifications Install headers, beams, posts, blocking, backing, and structural hardware Frame rough openings for windows, doors, storefronts, and mechanical penetrations Perform framing associated with commercial renovations, build-outs, and property improvements Verify framing is plumb, level, square, properly dimensioned, and built to plan Tie new construction into existing structures during additions and renovations Direct and assist other field personnel to keep work productive and organized Identify field conflicts and communicate potential issues before proceeding Coordinate framing requirements with project management, subcontractors, and other trades Plan ahead for materials, manpower, and upcoming work Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite Take ownership of the quality and productivity of completed work
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
5+ years of solid framing/carpentry experience preferred Previous experience as a lead framer, framing foreman, or senior carpenter strongly preferred Strong understanding of residential wood framing Commercial framing and renovation experience is a major plus Experience with light-gauge metal framing is preferred Ability to independently read architectural and structural plans Ability to lay out work directly from construction drawings Experience with additions, renovations, and occupied-space remodeling is highly preferred Experience with roof framing, floor systems, headers, beams, posts, and structural connections Strong understanding of rough openings and framing dimensions Ability to identify and solve common field conditions Ability to direct and work alongside other carpenters and laborers Skilled with framing nailers, circular saws, reciprocating saws, levels, lasers, speed squares, and standard carpentry tools Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Dependable, punctual, professional, and accountable
LEADERSHIP WITHOUT MICROMANAGEMENT
We're looking for someone who knows how to lead by working alongside the crew, not just supervise from the sidelines. A successful Lead Framer should be able to receive a set of plans and scope of work, determine how to approach the work, perform the layout, communicate what needs to happen, and keep the project moving. We don't want to micromanage experienced tradespeople. We expect our lead carpenters to think ahead, recognize problems, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for the quality of the finished work. If you can be handed a set of plans, walk onto a residential addition or commercial renovation, and know how to get the work started correctly, we want to talk to you.
MULTI-SKILLED CARPENTERS ARE HIGHLY VALUED
Our projects involve more than repetitive production framing. Our work includes residential additions and renovations, custom construction, commercial renovations, tenant build-outs, and property improvements. Experience with finish carpentry, trim, doors and windows, siding, cabinets, decking, flooring, drywall-related framing, or other remodeling and commercial improvement work is a major plus. We value lead carpenters who can move between different phases of a project and contribute wherever their experience is needed.
