Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic team as a Historic Restoration Carpenter or Field Crew trainee and enjoy the challenge of mastering the old world tradecraft...the kind that is necessary for work that will survive for centuries. In this role, you will engage in hands-on restoration projects, utilizing the basics of your carpentry expertise to restore historic window and door openings with precision and care. Your work will help maintain the cultural and aesthetic significance of historic sites, ensuring they stand the test of time for future generations. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to combine craftsmanship with preservation, making a tangible impact on communities and the American heritage. Learn the "high-end" of the window restoration art. Learn about the use of restoration epoxies, dutchman repairs, painting, and glazing wooden and metal windows. Our field team members work from the ground, on lifts, ladders, and scaffolds to perform restoration work and to install new storm windows/panels. The ideal person has some experience in remodeling, be physically fit for work up to three stories in height, be able to put in a hard days work, works well with a good team of professionals, and be open to learning about the preservation of historic windows. Monday - Friday (some Saturdays) Full-time, year-round work Responsibilities Perform detailed restoration work on windows and doors in historic buildings. Practice and master the different methods of craftsmanship required to perform repairs and restoration of historic architecture. Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to execute precise carpentry and fabrication tasks aligned with project specifications. Support team efforts in heavy lifting, scaffolding setup, and site safety protocols during restoration projects. Take care of yourself, the client's property we are working on, and the tools provided you. Be organized in your approach to work. Once our methods are understood and practiced , you will strive for a quality of work which will last, after we leave the jobsite, for the next hundred years. Requirements; Proven experience in trim or finish carpentry is a plus. Basic jobsite skills in framing carpentry is a plus. Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and construction site safety standards. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work at heights using scaffolding or ladders.
