As-Needed / Project-Based Job Overview The City of Baton Rouge Maintenance Department is seeking an experienced Sheetrock Repair Technician / Painter to assist with ongoing maintenance and repair projects at various federal and municipal buildings, including City Hall, the Juvenile Justice Center, and the Mayor's Office of Homeland Security. This is an as-needed position with no guaranteed schedule. Work assignments may be available during daytime hours, evenings, or weekends depending on project needs. The City will coordinate project schedules with the selected employee and make every effort to work around the employee's availability. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking supplemental income or flexible project-based work. Job Responsibilities Repair damaged drywall, sheetrock, and wall surfaces Patch holes, cracks, dents, and other wall imperfections Tape, float, mud, sand, and finish drywall repairs to a paint-ready condition Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, scraping, caulking, and priming Apply paint, stain, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and sprayers as needed Perform touch-up painting and complete room or building repaints Install and replace trim, molding, doors, and other basic carpentry components as needed Perform minor building maintenance and repair tasks as assigned Measure, cut, and install drywall materials as needed Maintain a clean and safe work area throughout projects Follow all facility safety procedures and security requirements Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding project progress and material needs Requirements Previous experience with sheetrock repair, drywall finishing, and painting required Basic carpentry and building maintenance experience preferred Must own and provide general carpentry, drywall, and sheetrock repair hand tools Must have reliable personal transportation to travel between job sites Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor as needed Must be available on an as-needed basis and communicate availability for upcoming projects Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check What We Offer Pay rate of $21.00 per hour Flexible, project-based work opportunities that can be scheduled around your availability Opportunity to work on a variety of maintenance and repair projects within government facilities Consistent opportunities for qualified candidates as projects become available Qualified candidates should apply with a resume detailing their sheetrock repair, painting, carpentry, and general maintenance experience.
