JOB SUMMARY

The Scaffold Carpenter builds, alters, moves, inspects as authorized, and dismantles pin lock metal scaffolding for industrial and commercial construction and maintenance work. The position reads and applies drawings and specifications, selects materials and tools, works safely at elevation, and produces stable access systems that meet project requirements. The work requires physical stamina, sound judgment, accurate measurement, and strict compliance with Born Industrial, client, manufacturer, and regulatory requirements.

MULTI-CRAFT EXPECTATION

Employees may be assigned Scaffolding Support, Painting/Blasting Support, and Light Construction Support when needed and when qualified, trained, and authorized for the task.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

AND- RESPONSIBILITIES:

Examine plans, blueprints, specifications, and field conditions to determine scaffold dimensions, access requirements, material placement, and work sequence. Examine, select, stage, and gather scaffold components, walkways, platforms, gangways, tools, and supporting materials. Inspect base surfaces for obstructions, instability, access limitations, and other conditions that may affect safe scaffold erection. Build, alter, move, and dismantle pin lock scaffold systems, including platforms, braces, planks, handrails, midrails, toe boards, screening, locking pins, wheels, ladders, and access points. Secure scaffolding to permanent structures using approved ties and install required bracing, anchors, tie rods, and related components according to design and site requirements. Set and brace anchor bolts and brace forms with timbers, tie rods, or anchors when assigned to light construction support. Load, transport, unload, sort, and stage scaffold materials while protecting personnel, equipment, and surrounding facilities. Measure and mark boards, timbers, or plywood using squares, measuring tapes, rulers, pencils, and scribers; cut materials to required dimensions. Safely use hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors, pry bars, and other approved hand and power tools. Rig or assist with rigging scaffold materials when trained, qualified, and authorized. Perform minor maintenance, inspection, and cleaning of tools and equipment; remove damaged items from service and report deficiencies. Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy, compare shapes and dimensions, apply basic mathematics, solve field problems, and select the proper tools and materials.

SAFETY, INSPECTION, AND COMPLIANCE

Follow all Born Industrial, client, project, permit, fall-protection, access-control, and applicable OSHA requirements. Use required PPE, which may include gloves, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, respiratory protection, fall protection equipment, and task-specific protective clothing. Conduct pre-use visual checks and report defects, instability, missing components, or changing conditions immediately. Perform formal scaffold inspections only when designated and qualified by the employer as a competent person. Maintain 100% fall protection when required and use approved access methods. Never modify or use incomplete scaffolding without authorization. Stop work and notify supervision when conditions are unsafe, instructions are unclear, or the task exceeds the employee's training or authorization. Participate in pre-task planning, toolbox talks, safety meetings, incident prevention activities, and corrective actions.

PRODUCTION, INVENTORY, AND COORDINATION

Maintain scaffold material inventory, storage areas, component organization, and housekeeping to support efficient mobilization and work execution. Record scaffold erection, alteration, dismantling, and completion status in approved tracking software, including Born360 or client systems when assigned. Communicate material needs, work status, constraints, and safety concerns to supervision and affected crews. Coordinate with pipefitters, electricians, scaffold crews, painter/blasters, laborers, and maintenance teams to provide safe access and minimize interference with other work. Perform other related duties and multi-craft support assignments as required, consistent with training, qualification, and site authorization.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education No minimum education requirement. Required Experience At least 2 years of scaffold-building experience and 2 years of scaffold-carpentry experience in industrial or commercial settings. Preferred Experience Four years of scaffolding experience preferred; 3-7 years of hands-on industrial scaffolding experience is strongly preferred for advanced assignments.
