The eligibility list shall be valid for one year after the list is established. General Statement of Duties Performs skilled trade work in the installation, service and maintenance of wooden structures and articles contained within structures of various compositions; repairs and maintain a variety of buildings and structures; and performs related duties as required. Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of a Lead Carpenter. Supervision Exercised May exercise technical supervision over apprentices Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate. Possession of a certificate evidencing the completion of training as a Carpentry apprentice, and four years of experience as a journey-level Carpenter. Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license, or equivalent out-of-state license, including no revocations or suspensions for the two year period prior to the date of employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and safe work practices of the carpentry trade. Knowledge of the full range of terms, principles, regulations, and procedures associated with the carpentry trade. Knowledge of building constructions methods. Possess basic computer skills, including word processing and data manipulation. Ability to operate and care for a variety of hand and power tools safely. Ability to understand and apply procedures for installation, maintenance, repair and/or tailoring of door closers, locks, keys, and related devices and hardware; window shades; tools and equipment used in the carpentry trade (i.e., ladders, tool handles). Ability to design and construct special equipment or facilities to accommodate the handicapped. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Working ability to understand and follow drawings, blueprints and oral instructions. Ability to listen, speak and interact effectively with all customers. Ability to cooperate and coordinate work with other trades. Ability to complete required departmental forms, records, and daily reports in a thorough and timely manner. Ability to estimate materials needed to complete work. Ability to continuously perform fine motor skills and grasp objects. Ability to frequently withstand repetitive motion of the neck and trunk. Ability to continuously lift and carry up to 15 pounds. Ability to frequently carry and lift hip bags, large saws, power drills and other supplies of up to 30 pounds. Ability to occasionally lift equipment, tools, and supplies of up to 75 pounds, maneuver them around obstacles and under adverse conditions. Ability to rarely carry and lift wooden and metal doors and other supplies of up to 125 pounds. Ability to push and pull various tools. Ability to occasionally get in and out of awkward positions while working in limited space. Ability to occasionally kneel, crouch, squat, reach to shoulder height and above for up to 30 minutes at a given time. Ability to climb ladders. Ability to operate a lift. Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties: Constructs buildings, sheds, stairways, fences, porches, partitions, cabinets, barricades, and a variety of other structures and articles. Installs floors, roofs, insulation, and tile. Hangs doors and related hardware; installs windows, sashes, shutters, and screens. Applies sheathing and siding, and interior and exterior finish and trim. Erects framing, scaffolding, false work, and concrete forms. Perform lock shop work including keys, and locks and associated hardware. Installs and repairs blinds and shades. Works with the department¿s Storekeeper to coordinate the procurement of materials and resources required for the effective completion of work assigned. Contributes to the District's Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources. Performs other related duties as assigned. Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule This is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week. The pay is $45.43 per hour.
