QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of high school and ten years experience as a journeyman carpenter in the maintenance and construction of buildings, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in carpentry. Two years experience as a supervisor.

AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Possesses responsibility for all general carpentry work, to includes rough and finish carpentry, cabinetry, masonry, cement work, locksmith trade, bleacher and locker repair, modular unit (hut) installation, glazing, bathroom partition installation and repair, etc. Provides leadership by assigning work to crew members, reviewing work, making corrections as needed, and demonstrating desired skills, techniques and procedures employed in the carpentry trade. Develops detailed estimate of time, material and cost of work to be performed. Oversees special projects to ensure proper means and methods are followed through completion. Supervises the work of personnel assisting with various phases of the work and coordinates work with other trades as necessary. Develops long-term departmental goals, objectives and strategies. Develops and implements predictive and preventive maintenance programs. Manages SchoolDude work order software for Carpentry Department. Performs administrative duties as assigned. Recommends persons to be hired, disciplined, discharged or promoted. Serves as a mentor to the Assistant Foreman in all aspects of job performance. Possesses responsibility for keyway records, hut records, window/glazing records, door and hardware records, etc. Maintains record of inventory of carpentry equipment and materials. Serves as technical expert in the carpentry trade. Oversees all in-house construction and renovation. Possesses thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and specifications. Possesses knowledge of various types and characteristics of carpentry materials. Possesses working knowledge of the techniques, methods, tools and safety precautions of the carpentry trade. Possesses knowledge of equipment used by carpenters such as nail guns, air compressors, jack hammers, mechanical saws, welding machine, torch cutter, tile scraper, bobcat, and bucket-truck. Understands and works from oral or written instructions, blueprints and specifications. Obtains requests for quotations, executes and oversees small contracted projects. Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties. Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness. Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to demonstrate the following physical demands to safely and productively perform the essential functions of the Carpenter position. The job requires constant material/tool handling, standing/walking on even and uneven grade, and work from below grade to overhead; frequent pushing/pulling and operating of equipment; and occasional sitting/driving, and climbing ladders/stairs. The employee must be able to lift/carry 15 lbs. or less constantly, 25 lbs. or less frequently and 50 to 100 lbs. occasionally. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces requiring entry to 24" x 24" crawl space occasionally. The employee must be able to tolerate the above job demands on a regular schedule and as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must be able to acquire a CDL when requested. Must possess or acquire basic set of personal hand tools. Must be certified in Asbestos II/III removal on small flooring projects and must maintain yearly training. REV 04/25
