$22-$30/hour based on experience and demonstrated ability Deck Innovations™ LLC is hiring a Lead Deck Carpenter to lead the day-to-day construction of premium residential deck projects throughout the Pittsburgh area. This is a hands-on lead position. We are looking for someone who can take a project plan, understand the scope, organize the work, and keep the project moving from start to finish. Production is one of the most important parts of this position. We maintain high construction and finish standards, but projects must also be completed efficiently and on schedule. Responsibilities Lead day-to-day deck construction and jobsite production Read and execute project drawings and specifications Perform accurate deck layout and establish elevations Lay out footings, posts, beams and framing Frame joists, beams, blocking and structural components Independently lay out and build staircases and stringers Install composite and PVC decking Install picture-frame decking and finish details Install fascia and stair risers Install aluminum and vinyl railing systems Direct and work alongside another carpenter or installer Plan the day's work and maintain steady production Identify problems early and communicate them before they delay the project Maintain an organized and professional jobsite Ensure work follows company standards, project plans and applicable requirements Maintain quality while meeting project production targets Production Expectations This position requires someone who can actually build and keep a project moving. The Lead Deck Carpenter will be expected to receive the project plan and take responsibility for daily field execution. You should not require constant supervision to determine what happens next. We are looking for a lead who understands that professional construction requires both: High-quality craftsmanship and strong production. Projects will have established production schedules and target completion dates. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate: Has strong residential carpentry experience Has deck-building experience Is highly proficient with a tape measure and construction layout Understands framing and structural construction Can confidently calculate, lay out and build stairs Can independently measure, cut and install Can lead another worker productively Works with urgency while maintaining quality Can troubleshoot normal field conditions Takes ownership of the day's production Follows approved drawings and company construction standards Communicates professionally with management, coworkers and homeowners Requirements Previous carpentry/construction experience Valid driver's license Reliable transportation Dependable attendance Ability to safely perform physical construction work Ability to work outdoors Professional appearance and attitude Ability to lead another employee Ability to follow project drawings and company standards Deck-building and composite/PVC installation experience are strongly preferred. Compensation $22-$30/hour Compensation is based on demonstrated skill, leadership ability, deck-building knowledge and production. Candidates seeking the top of the pay range should be able to demonstrate that they can independently lead a residential deck project, including layout, framing, stairs, decking, railing and finish work.
