The incumbent's duties will include but are not limited to:

• Perform a variety of duties in new construction, restoration, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and repair of park and historic site facilities and structures using the tools of the carpentry trade in a skilled manner.
• Fabricate, construct, repair, replace, and perform preventative maintenance on regional facilities and other structures.
• Adhere to professional codes and regulations common to the carpentry trade.
• Lay out work following blueprints, specifications, or instructions, and diagnose problems; draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects; and order supplies as needed.
• Act independently with a minimum of direct supervision and be responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects.
• Train employees and assign, supervise, review, and evaluate their work and assist in other areas of park operations. Minimum QualificationsFour years of full-time experience
• in carpentry work under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Carpenter) traineeship or a two-year carpenter training, apprenticeship, OR equivalent program• such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

• Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work.

Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

• If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.

Additional CommentsThe hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) with the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($61,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000).

OPERATIONAL NEEDS

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
• Must have the ability to supervise others.
• Must have the ability to communicate in writing and comprehend written material.
• As a term of condition and employment, you must be able to pass a physical and be medically cleared to wear a respirator.
• Must be able to work from heights.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Historic Preservation is preferred.
