Job Description

Lead Carpenter Modern Richmond Building Co. Richmond, VA Job Details Full-time $27 - $30 an hour 3 hours ago Qualifications Outdoor work experience Driver's License Frame carpentry Crew management Woodworking Full Job Description About Us Modern Richmond Building Company is a Richmond-based residential builder. We are seeking a skilled Lead Carpenter to run the daily work on our job sites and lead a small crew. Overview The Lead Carpenter is a working craftsman and the day-to-day leader on his site. He builds alongside his crew, is responsible for the quality of everything that crew produces, and keeps the site safe, clean, and moving. He works closely with our Field Superintendent, who sets the schedule and coordinates trades and materials, and he is the person closest to the work — his read of site conditions shapes how each project is planned. Responsibilities Perform framing, exterior, and finish carpentry to the company's standard of craftsmanship. Lead a small crew of carpenters, apprentices, and laborers, assigning daily tasks and keeping the work productive. Build to the plans, specifications, and applicable code, raising unclear drawings or unexpected conditions with the Field Superintendent rather than improvising. Report progress, site conditions, material needs, and problems to the Field Superintendent early and honestly, and take part in weekly look-ahead planning. Confirm the site is ready before trades arrive, receive them on site, and coordinate day to day so the crew and the trades do not interfere with each other. Interact with homeowners courteously and professionally, answering simple questions about the work and directing anything about scope, cost, or schedule to the Field Superintendent. Receive deliveries, verify quantities and condition, and stage and protect materials on site. Enforce safety requirements every day, correct unsafe conditions immediately, and report injuries and near misses the same day. Keep the site clean throughout the day, protect the home, landscaping, and finishes, and secure tools and materials each evening. Inspect the crew's work as it progresses, correct deficiencies early, and work the punch list to completion. Train and develop the carpenters and apprentices on the crew. Qualifications Strong residential carpentry skills across framing, exterior, and finish work. Ability to read and work from plans and specifications. Experience leading a small crew. Sound judgment about when to solve a problem and when to raise it. Professional presence around homeowners on occupied property. Reliable, organized, and safety-minded. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Own hand tools. Physical Requirements Sustained physical carpentry work, climbing ladders and stairs, lifting up to fifty pounds, and working outdoors in varying weather. Pay based on experience. (Pay range listed here is negotiable and will be decided based on experience only.) Please apply on Indeed.com or send your resume and cover letter to . We look forward to welcoming you to our team!
