Experience 0 - 1 year Save Job LinkedIn Copy URL Email Facebook Our Coral Conservation and Reef Restoration Internship introduces individuals to the nonprofit sector of marine conservation, focusing on the restoration of coral reef ecosystems and educating the public on our work. Internships last 4 months and are full-time volunteer positions. Both land-based and dive-based internships available. Interns gain vast experience through participation in our community engagement programs, daily operations, and fieldwork. Interns have the chance to be considered for second and third term internships. Interns will be provided with an educational stipend to offset living costs.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and eligible to work in the US at the start of the term. Applicants should have completed at least 2 years in an undergraduate program, be enrolled in a graduate program, or be a recent graduate. Preference will be given to students who have studied/are studying marine science, specifically coral reefs. All applicants are required to have CPR, First Aid, and O2 certifications.

Requirements for dive applicants:

Minimum Advanced Open Water with at least 30 dives (15 in the ocean, 5 from a boat, and 1 within a year of the internship start date). Preference will be given to candidates who are Rescue or higher. The following dive gear must be provided by the intern: BCD, regulator, mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, weights, and gloves. Upon selection, candidates will be required to provide a dive physical, c-cards, log-books, active dive insurance, active CPR/First Aid and O2 certs, regulator service, and

vaccination. All candidates' dive status is pending review of their physical by our Dive Safety Officer and Board. OTHER Housing and vehicular transportation must be provided by the intern. Note the cost of living in the Florida Keys can be between $800 and $1,200 monthly. Rent can be less expensive if interns share living spaces. Work requires high levels of physical exertion and/or physical strain. Must be able to carry 65 pounds and able to lift 35 pounds overhead. Interns are expected to perform 3 shallow-water scuba dives for up to 5 consecutive days per week. Work environment involves frequent exposure to various elements (sun, heat, wind, rain, cold, etc). Typical work week is 5 days a week, including weekends and minor holidays. Availability to travel and work flexible hours is essential.
