Position Summary The Concrete Pump Operator Trainee will train alongside experienced pump operators to learn the safe and efficient operation of concrete boom pumps on commercial construction projects. This is a hands-on position with a structured training program designed to develop the skills necessary to safely set up, operate, maintain, clean, and eventually independently operate a concrete pump. Must have a CDL License. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, mechanically inclined, willing to learn, and comfortable working long and irregular hours in a fast-paced construction environment. Schedule Monday-Friday with varying and irregular hours based on project schedules. Early morning starts are common and may be required. Long workdays and overtime should be expected. Some Saturdays may be required. Operators are expected to arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour before the scheduled concrete placement to allow adequate time for a safe setup. Training & Career Development During the first six months, the Pump Operator Trainee will work closely with experienced operators and progressively develop the skills needed to operate a concrete pump independently.
Training will include:
Learning proper and safe pump setup and jobsite procedures. Identifying overhead powerlines, underground utilities, trenches, and other jobsite hazards. Learning safe operation of the pump and boom using the remote control. Learning proper boom folding, unfolding, and positioning procedures. Learning safe priming, pumping, recirculating, and cleanup procedures. Understanding different concrete mixes and how they affect pumping. Learning proper communication with hose men, concrete truck drivers, customers, and other jobsite personnel. Developing the ability to safely operate the pump under experienced operator supervision. Learning daily equipment inspections and basic pump maintenance, including greasing and identifying potential problems. Learning to recognize mechanical issues and report problems promptly. Completing pump tickets and required paperwork accurately and daily. Progressing toward independently setting up, operating, and cleaning the pump and leading concrete pours safely. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Safely operate and assist with the operation of concrete boom pumps. Perform proper pump setup, including positioning and securing outriggers. Monitor the pump, boom, concrete flow, and surrounding jobsite throughout the pour. Communicate effectively with the hose crew, concrete truck drivers, customers, and jobsite supervisors. Maintain awareness of jobsite hazards and follow all safety procedures. Assist with priming, pumping, recirculating, and cleaning the pump. Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance. Keep the pump truck clean, organized, and presentable. Complete and submit required tickets and paperwork accurately. Report mechanical problems or unusual equipment behavior immediately. Provide professional customer service and work efficiently while maintaining safety. Continue developing skills throughout the training program with the goal of independently operating a pump. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening. Previous construction or concrete experience is preferred but not required. Mechanical or equipment experience is a plus. Ability to learn and safely operate specialized equipment. Basic understanding of measurements and concrete placement. Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures. Strong communication skills and ability to work well with a crew. Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic. Ability to remain calm and make safe decisions in a fast-paced jobsite environment. Must be comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Must be willing to work early mornings, long hours, overtime, and occasional Saturdays.
