The role is physically demanding, often done outdoors in hot conditions, and requires teamwork, attention to detail, and safety awareness.

PAY DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE

Core Responsibilities Removing old pavement : Breaking up and clearing existing surfaces using pneumatic tools or hand equipment Preparing surfaces : Cleaning debris with blowers, brooms, and wire brushes (not power washing) to ensure proper adhesion Spreading and smoothing asphalt : Using rakes, shovels, or machinery to distribute hot mix evenly

Teamwork:

Working under a foreman's direction and with other trades Operating rollers and compactors : Pressing and smoothing asphalt to meet thickness and compaction standards Setting up safety zones : Placing barricades and directing traffic away from work areas if needed Loading and maintaining equipment : Packing tools and keeping machinery in working order

Safety Compliance:

Following OSHA and other safety regulations, and maintaining a clean, safe worksite

Certifications:

OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and sometimes ACI certification are preferred Required Skills & Qualifications Physical stamina to work in all weather conditions Ability to operate heavy machinery and hand tools (pavers, rollers, brooms, etc. Attention to detail for quality control Safety awareness and adherence to OSHA or local safety standards Basic understanding of construction processes and asphalt application No college degree required, but willingness to learn and follow instructions is essential Working Conditions Outdoor work, often in extreme heat or cold. Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy machinery. Shift work, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends A concrete laborer is a skilled construction worker who performs the physical tasks involved in preparing, pouring, placing, and finishing concrete for roads, sidewalks, and other structure

Core Responsibilities Site Preparation:

Clearing debris, hazards, and obstacles from the work area

Formwork Setup:

Installing and adjusting wooden or metal forms to hold concrete in place

Pouring & Spreading:

Pouring concrete into forms or onto surfaces, then using tools like shovels, floats, trowels, and screeds to level and smooth it

Finishing:

Applying hardening and sealing compounds to ensure durability

Curing Monitoring:

Checking and maintaining proper curing conditions for strength and quality

Tool & Equipment Care:

Maintaining and cleaning tools and machinery

Safety Compliance:

Following OSHA and other safety regulations, and maintaining a clean, safe worksite

Skills & Qualifications Physical Strength & Endurance:

Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials

Hand-Eye Coordination:

For precise pouring and finishing work
