Job Title:
Concrete Finisher Job Description The Concrete Finisher will place, level, and finish concrete for a variety of projects, including slabs, sidewalks, and curbs. This role ensures all concrete surfaces are smooth, level, and meet project specifications while maintaining a safe, efficient, and collaborative work environment. The position requires hands-on concrete finishing experience, the ability to read a measuring tape, follow directions, and work effectively as part of a team with strong attention to detail and a solid work ethic. Responsibilities Place, level, and finish concrete for slabs, sidewalks, curbs, and other flatwork projects. Ensure all finished concrete surfaces are smooth, level, and meet project specifications and quality standards. Assist with concrete pours, including preparing work areas and coordinating timing with the crew. Use hand tools and power tools such as trowels, floats, screeds, and saws to achieve the desired finish. Follow directions and work from basic plans or instructions to complete assigned tasks. Support general labor tasks related to concrete construction, including site preparation and cleanup. Work with concrete forms, framing, and layout as needed to prepare for pours. Contribute to paving and masonry-related activities as required by the project. Read and interpret basic measurements using a measuring tape and perform simple calculations to support accurate layout and finishing. Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment properly. Collaborate closely with other crew members and trades to meet project deadlines and maintain high-quality standards. Follow all job site safety practices and OSHA guidelines, including safe operation around heavy equipment and machinery. Monitor concrete curing conditions and take appropriate steps to protect and maintain finished surfaces. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding progress, issues, and safety concerns. Demonstrate reliable attendance and ensure timely arrival to job sites with necessary personal tools and equipment, as required. Essential Skills Proven experience in concrete finishing or closely related construction work. Ability to read a measuring tape accurately and perform basic math calculations. Strong understanding of concrete placement, finishing, and curing processes. Ability to follow directions and work from basic plans or instructions. Experience using hand tools and power tools such as trowels, floats, screeds, and saws. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship. Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in physically demanding conditions, including frequent standing, bending, and kneeling. Reliable transportation to and from job sites and consistent, dependable attendance. Commitment to job site safety and adherence to OSHA guidelines. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a collaborative work environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with decorative, stamped, or colored concrete. Ability to read blueprints or construction drawings. Experience with forming, layout, or rebar installation. Prior experience on commercial construction projects. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Ability to operate skid steers or other light construction equipment. Leadership experience or the ability to help guide and support a crew. Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset. Familiarity with concrete slabs, concrete forms, and general concrete construction practices. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based on active construction job sites and involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. The work is physically demanding and requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and moving materials. You will work around heavy equipment, machinery, and other trades, so strong situational awareness and adherence to safety practices are essential. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication, and coordination among crew members to maintain quality and meet project schedules. Appropriate workwear suitable for outdoor construction conditions and safety requirements is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bloomington, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
