Assistant Project Manager Position Overview We are a New York City concrete construction contractor seeking a motivated Assistant Project Manager (APM) to join our team. The APM will work directly with Project Managers, Superintendents, General Contractors, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to help manage the day-to-day operations of large-scale cast-in-place concrete projects throughout New York City . This is a hands-on construction management position. We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and interested in developing into a Project Manager. Responsibilities The Assistant Project Manager will assist with: Reviewing structural, architectural, and construction drawings. Maintaining and tracking RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and drawing revisions . Coordinating concrete, reinforcing steel, post-tensioning, formwork, embeds, sleeves, openings, and related work. Tracking project schedules, concrete pours, material deliveries, and upcoming work. Reviewing project drawings for conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues. Preparing and distributing RFIs and project correspondence. Coordinating with General Contractors, Construction Managers, engineers, architects, vendors, and field personnel. Maintaining current drawing sets and ensuring field teams receive the latest approved information. Assisting with procurement and tracking of rebar, concrete, formwork materials, embeds, and specialty items. Preparing and maintaining project logs, including submittal, RFI, change order, and procurement logs. Assisting with change orders, extra work documentation, cost tracking, and supporting backup . Tracking manpower, production, quantities, and project progress. Attending project coordination and progress meetings. Preparing meeting notes and following up on outstanding action items. Assisting with concrete pour planning and coordination. Working closely with Superintendents and field personnel to resolve issues before they impact production. Performing periodic site visits and verifying project conditions. Assisting Project Managers with project closeout and documentation.
Qualifications Candidates should have:
1-5 years of construction experience preferred. Experience with a concrete subcontractor, structural contractor, General Contractor, or Construction Manager is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or related field is preferred but not required for candidates with relevant construction experience . Ability to read and understand structural and architectural drawings. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with Bluebeam Revu preferred. Experience with Procore or similar construction management software is a plus. AutoCAD experience is a plus. Understanding of cast-in-place concrete construction is highly desirable. Preferred Experience Experience involving any of the following is a major plus: Cast-in-place concrete Reinforcing steel Formwork Post-tensioning Foundations Structural slabs Columns Shear walls Concrete pumping and placement High-rise construction NYC construction What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who wants to learn the concrete construction business and grow into a Project Manager position . The successful candidate will be comfortable working between the office and field and will understand that successful project management requires staying ahead of drawings, materials, approvals, schedules, and field conditions. You should be someone who takes ownership of assignments, follows up until issues are resolved, communicates clearly, and understands the importance of addressing problems before they affect field production or the project schedule .
