Job Description

Wertz Geotechnical Engineering is a local geotechnical engineering consulting firm looking to add a field technician to our growing team. Prior experience preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided. In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Operating soil and concrete testing equipment
  • Observing grading and excavations; testing related materials for moisture-density relationship using a nuclear density gauge
  • Testing cement-based materials in the construction of new buildings and roadways
  • Completing testing in accordance with ACI and ASTM standards
  • Providing inspection of rebar reinforcements for concrete and masonry structures
  • Collaborating with geotechnical engineers and contractors to verify the bearing capacity of soils for proposed structures
  • Completing and sending daily site inspection reports to the home office and fabricating strength specimens for testing
  • Working closely with project managers to identify solutions to questions or problems posed on job sites
Note:
this role does not involve performing or managing construction work. This role is solely responsible for performing soil and concrete testing on construction sites and communicating results via the proper channels to project management.

Work Conditions:
Your work will be primarily completed outdoors on a variety of active construction sites. Work is done in all seasons, in all types of weather. As you are expected to travel between job sites, the company will reimburse mileage for that travel. Assuming a clean driving record, technicians will be provided with a company fleet vehicle for use during the workday. Work schedules for this position vary based on client needs/schedules, and seasonality of work. It is expected that individuals working in this position are able to maintain a level of flexibility to adhere to varied work hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work o Ability to lift 50-80 lbs.
  • Commitment to adherence of construction site safety protocols
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Educational background in construction technology
  • Nuclear density gauge certification
  • OSHA 10+ Construction Safety training
  • ACI Level 1 Concrete certification

$17.00 - $25.00 per hour
