We specialize in site development, underground utilities, earthwork, grading, demolition, and heavy civil construction throughout Northeast Florida. Position Summary McLain Site Solutions is seeking an experienced Pipe Crew Foreman to lead underground utility crews on heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for supervising the installation of fire protection water mains, potable water distribution systems, gravity sanitary sewer, force mains, storm drainage, and Storm Tech® underground detention systems. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive underground utility experience who can safely manage crews, maintain production, control costs, and deliver high-quality work in accordance with project plans and specifications. Essential Responsibilities Supervise and lead underground utility crews on active construction projects. Plan and coordinate daily work activities to meet production goals and project schedules. Read and interpret utility plans, profiles, cut sheets, and construction specifications. Well versed in all aspects of underground utilities Ensure proper line, grade, elevations, and pipe alignment using pipe lasers, transit/laser levels, grade rods, and grade stakes. Install and oversee the installation of PVC, HDPE, ductile iron pipe (DIP), reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), fittings, valves, fire hydrants, manholes, catch basins, inlets, structures, and related utility appurtenances. Verify trench depth, bedding, pipe backfill, compaction, pressure testing, and gravity sewer testing meet project specifications. Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to maximize production. Order materials and coordinate deliveries to minimize downtime and keep projects on schedule. Monitor daily production while controlling labor, equipment, and material costs. Inspect completed work to ensure quality, compliance with plans, municipal standards, and owner specifications. Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA trench safety, excavation safety, and company policies. Coordinate with survey crews, inspectors, project managers, superintendents, and utility inspectors. Train and mentor crew members while maintaining a safe, productive, and professional work environment. Complete daily reports and perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Minimum 3-5 years of underground utility experience, including previous Foreman or Lead experience. Experience installing PVC, HDPE, ductile iron pipe (DIP), reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), fittings, valves, fire hydrants, manholes, catch basins, and utility structures. Ability to read blueprints, utility profiles, cut sheets, and construction plans. Experience using pipe lasers, transit/laser levels, grade rods, and other layout equipment. Strong understanding of trench safety, excavation, shoring, dewatering, and underground utility installation practices. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Ability to coordinate crews, order materials, schedule work, and manage production while controlling project costs. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Preferred OSHA 30 Certification. Competent Person - Trenching & Excavation Certification. Confined Space Certification. CPR/First Aid Certification. CDL. Experience operating excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment. Experience with Contractor Foreman or similar construction management software. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in and around trenches. Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and underground utility installation equipment. Work Environment This position is performed primarily on active construction sites. Employees regularly work around excavations, underground utilities, heavy equipment, moving machinery, dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions. Required PPE must be worn at all times.
Schedule Monday-Friday Typical hours:
7:00 AM - 5:00 PM One-hour unpaid lunch Overtime may be available based on project needs and business needs.
