WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A GRADING/PIPE FOREMAN AT J T RUSSELL & SONS

As a Full Time Grading/Pipe Foreman at J T Russell & Sons, you will directly supervise grade / pipe crew members, fostering a safe and efficient work environment. Your role entails training crew members on operational protocols and safety measures, while meticulously maintaining records of crew time, materials used, and equipment utilization on a daily basis. You'll strategically sequence pipe installations to minimize interference with ongoing project activities and the public. Effective communication with other foremen, subcontractors, and DOT personnel is essential, as is the ability to read plans and determine project needs. You will operate all pipe laying equipment in compliance with company procedures and oversee checks to ensure proper functionality. Additionally, you'll manage preventative maintenance, oversee regular cleaning, and assist with minor repairs, all while adhering to local, state, and federal regulations. Your commitment to safety will be paramount in creating a secure work environment for everyone involved.

ARE YOU A GOOD FIT FOR THIS GRADING/PIPE FOREMAN JOB?

To excel as a Full Time Grading/Pipe Foreman at J T Russell & Sons, you must possess a robust set of skills and qualifications. A minimum of 3 years' experience in the heavy civil and/or highway industry as a Grade/Pipe Foreman is essential. You need to be well-organized and capable of understanding work directions while communicating effectively with both management and crew members. Experience in scheduling materials and employees for projects is critical, along with keen attention to detail and situational awareness to uphold safety standards. Physical stamina is necessary, as the role requires standing for long periods, bending, and lifting up to 90 pounds. Familiarity with GPS technology is a plus, and holding or obtaining certifications such as Erosion Control Level I or II, Trenching/Excavation Competent Person Training, and Work Zone Safety Supervisor is beneficial. You must also be proficient in working outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining professionalism in interactions with co-workers, inspectors, and the public. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: 3+ years of experience as a Grade/Pipe Foreman in the heavy civil and/or highway industry required. Incorporates accident prevention and corrective measures in all activities Able to work outside in all weather conditions; Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery; Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete. Willing to perform some manual labor as needed Reliable transportation to and from the Albemarle Office or Jobsite; Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
