Position Overview:

River Penny Construction, LLC is seeking an experienced Commercial Fence Working Superintendent - Traveling to lead field operations on upcoming commercial, industrial, and government/federal fence and gate projects. This is a project-based, hands-on field leadership position intended for an experienced fence professional who can take ownership of field operations, direct installation crews, and execute work with minimal day-to-day supervision. Work assignments will be offered as projects are awarded and scheduled. This is not currently intended to be a guaranteed year-round, 40-hour-per-week position. While assigned to an active project, employees should generally expect approximately 30-50 hours per week, depending on project requirements and schedule. Current work is anticipated primarily throughout North Carolina and surrounding states, and travel will be required depending on project location.

Compensation:

$32.00-$40.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated ability to independently lead commercial fence and gate installations. Candidates with extensive commercial, industrial, federal/government, large-gate, and crew-management experience may qualify toward the upper end of the range. Overtime may be available depending on project requirements.

Responsibilities:

The Commercial Fence Working Superintendent will be responsible for: Leading and supervising field fence installers and laborers Reviewing construction drawings, specifications, details, approved submittals, and project scope Performing and overseeing fence layout, post spacing, fence lines, gate openings, elevations, and installation sequencing Planning daily manpower, equipment, material, and production requirements Directing installation of commercial fencing systems, including chain-link, black vinyl-coated chain-link, ornamental fencing, security fencing, wood fencing, and specialty fence systems Supervising installation of commercial swing gates, cantilever/slide gates, dumpster enclosures, and associated hardware Coordinating gate operators and access-control interfaces when applicable Maintaining crew productivity and monitoring completed quantities Coordinating field activities with River Penny Construction project management Communicating professionally with general contractor superintendents, inspectors, and other trades Identifying field conflicts, material shortages, and schedule concerns before they impact production Ensuring work complies with contract documents, approved submittals, manufacturer requirements, and applicable quality standards Enforcing project and company safety requirements Maintaining accountability for company tools, equipment, and materials Tracking daily manpower, production, completed work, deliveries, and significant field conditions Performing hands-on fence and gate installation as required This is a working superintendent position. The successful candidate must be capable of both leading the field operation and performing installation work alongside the crew when required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have: Minimum 5 years of professional fence installation experience Commercial, industrial, or federal/government fence installation experience Previous experience supervising or leading fence installation crews Demonstrated ability to independently manage field personnel and daily production Strong commercial chain-link fence installation experience Commercial gate installation experience Ability to read construction drawings, details, specifications, and site plans Ability to perform field layout and independently plan installation sequencing Knowledge of post installation, concrete footings, terminal assemblies, bracing, tensioning systems, fence hardware, and gate installation Ability to safely operate common fence installation tools and equipment Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with commercial fence construction

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in: Federal, military, USACE, or other government construction Large commercial construction projects Large swing, cantilever, and slide gate systems Automated gate and access-control coordination Ornamental and security fencing Prevailing-wage/Davis-Bacon projects Skid steers, compact track loaders, mini excavators, hydraulic augers, and similar fence installation equipment OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Current First Aid/CPR certification

Work Schedule:

While actively assigned to a project, employees should generally expect approximately 30-50 hours per week. Actual hours will depend on project schedule, weather, site conditions, general contractor requirements, and production needs. Some projects may require overtime, early starts, extended workdays, or occasional weekend work. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours between project assignments.

Travel:

Travel is required. Current projects are anticipated primarily throughout North Carolina and surrounding states. Candidates should be comfortable accepting project assignments outside their immediate home area. Project-specific travel, lodging, transportation, and/or per diem arrangements will be communicated prior to assignment when applicable.

Anticipated Start:

River Penny Construction is currently recruiting field leadership for upcoming commercial fence and gate projects. Start dates are contingent upon project award, notice to proceed, and project scheduling. Qualified candidates may be interviewed and selected in advance so field teams can mobilize quickly following project award.

We are looking for more than an experienced installer. River Penny Construction needs a working superintendent who can be trusted to run the field operation - someone who can receive the drawings and project requirements, organize the crew, lay out the work, plan daily production, maintain quality and safety, solve normal field problems, and communicate effectively with project management and the general contractor. The right candidate may become a preferred working superintendent for recurring River Penny Construction projects as our commercial and federal fencing workload grows.
