NW Contour Building Co. is a third-generation, family-owned civil and earthwork contractor and residential developer serving the greater Puget Sound since 2007. We self-perform site clearing, grading, excavation, utilities, drainage, and retaining walls for custom homes and boutique residential developments. Tight-knit crew, safety-first culture, real ownership of your work. Job summary. Lead a 3-6 person crew on residential earthwork projects. You'll run a machine most of the day while directing the crew, holding grade, laying pipe, keeping the site safe and compliant, and hitting daily production. Key responsibilities. Assign work across operators, driver/operators, and laborers. Operate compact and mid-size excavators for clearing, over-excavation, trenching, backfill, and finish grade. Lay storm, sewer, and water pipe to line and grade using pipe lasers, with proper bedding and backfill; set catch basins, manholes, and cleanouts to plan; coordinate tie-ins, testing, and inspections with jurisdictions. Read plans, grading sheets, and stakes; set and verify grade with laser and rod before signing off on a task. Sequence cut/fill and haul so equipment and trucks stay productive and export is minimized. Enforce OSHA trenching standards and PPE rules; act as competent person where trained. Maintain erosion and sediment control per the SWPPP. Complete daily logs, verify crew time, collect receipts, and report production daily. Qualifications. 5+ years earthwork or excavation experience including 1-2 years leading a crew. Strong pipe laying, pipe laser, and onsite underground utility installation skills are required — storm, sanitary sewer, and water, from bedding through testing. Proficient on compact and mid-size excavators, dozers, loaders, and compactors; confident finish grader. Strong plan reading, cut/fill interpretation, and laser/slope work. Solid grasp of trench safety, compaction, and erosion control. Valid driver's license and clean MVR; CDL-A/B a plus. OSHA 30 and trench competent person training preferred. Able to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors year-round. Compensation & benefits. $42-$50 per hour DOE, OT after 40 hrs. Semi-monthly pay, direct deposit. Company health insurance, paid holidays, PTO. Monday-Friday with occasional Saturday — home every night, no per-diem travel. Advancement into Earthwork Superintendent or operations management.
