Job Description

T.E. Stevens Construction is seeking a reliable and experienced Skilled Laborer with hands-on experience in underground utility installation, including water lines, sewer lines, and storm drainage systems . The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, demonstrate knowledge of trenching and pipe-laying practices, and be committed to job site safety and productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of underground water, sewer, and storm drainage lines Perform hand-digging, trenching, backfilling, grading, and compaction tasks Lay and align pipe accurately using proper tools and construction methods Cut and fit pipes, install valves, manholes, catch basins, and related components Operate small equipment such as tampers, compactors, or saws when necessary Assist equipment operators and other skilled workers by providing labor support Maintain clean and organized job sites, including proper storage of tools and materials Follow all OSHA, MSHA, and company safety regulations and use required PPE at all times Work as part of a crew, taking direction from supervisors and foremen Communicate clearly with team members to ensure efficient and accurate work completion May operate construction equipment if qualified and authorized
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting May be exposed to loud noises, moving equipment, dust, and mud Use of hand tools and powered equipment

Minimum Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in underground utility construction (water, sewer, and storm preferred) Familiarity with trench safety, pipe slope/grade, and utility installation techniques Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and grade stakes is a plus Must be able to lift 50 lbs. frequently and work in confined or uneven spaces Valid driver's license preferred Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites
