Job Description

The City of Clanton is seeking to fill a full-time hourly position. Parks and Recreation Laborers assist with activities regarding maintaining and repairing City facilities and open spaces in order to ensure safe and clean parks and complexes for public use. Duties include but are not limited to: Perform custodial work including, but not limited to changing light bulbs, sweeping, vacuuming, andmopping floors, removing litter, and emptying trash receptacles, cleaning restrooms and replenishingsupplies, cleaning mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, washing windows, walls, metal andwoodwork, and cleaning rain gutters and roofs. Mow and maintain park and open space areas including athletic fields; trim, edge, and weed as needed. Plant and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Rake and clean city parks and open spaces; remove litter and debris. Drag and line playing fields; prepare and reset ball fields as needed. Prepare basketball courts as needed. Open and close facilities as needed. Operates tractors, mowers, hand operated equipment and specialized turf care equipment as needed. Inspect, wash, and perform minor repairs of park drinking fountains and restrooms. Paint facilities (e.g., garbage cans, dugouts, park benches). Ties windscreens. Cleaning and maintaining pool (i.e., testing, logging, and balancing water chemistry). Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, prepares facilitiesfor park and recreation program use. Respond to emergency and special event clean-ups. Performs other duties as assigned. Education/Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in construction, equipment operation, or commercial landscaping is preferred but not a requirement. Hourly compensation begins at $11.46. Depending on experience, education, and other training, higherrates of pay will be considered. The City of Clanton is proud to offer an excellent benefits package.
