Job Summary Join our dynamic team as an Underground Telecom Laborer and play a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications infrastructure. This energetic position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions to ensure the reliable delivery of fiber optic and copper cable systems. You will operate heavy equipment, utilize diagnostic and testing tools, interpret technical drawings, and perform cable splicing—all while adhering to safety standards. Responsibilities Install, repair, and maintain underground telecommunications cables, including fiber optic and copper systems, ensuring optimal network performance Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and power tools safely and efficiently to facilitate underground cable placement Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to troubleshoot network issues and verify system integrity Perform telecommunications cable splicing and fiber splicing with precision to ensure seamless connectivity Interpret technical schematics, drawings, and engineering troubleshooting guides to accurately execute installation tasks Conduct outdoor work in various environments, adhering strictly to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards for safety and compliance Support telecommunications outside plant operations by managing cabling, network infrastructure setup, and testing of telephony and Ethernet systems Assist with interpreting technical drawings related to fiber optic networks, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), and other IT infrastructure components Climb poles or structures as needed for cable installation or maintenance activities while following safety protocols Maintain detailed records of work performed, including inspection logs, incident reports, and system configurations Qualifications Proven experience in outdoor construction or telecommunications field service roles with a focus on underground cabling projects Strong knowledge of fiber optic cables, telecommunications network installation, splicing techniques, and troubleshooting methods Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively Familiarity with technical schematics, drawings, and engineering troubleshooting support for fiber optic networks and cabling systems Experience with telecommunication testing equipment for verifying signal quality and diagnosing issues within fiber optic or copper networks Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards for outdoor electrical work safety compliance Skilled in interpreting technical drawings related to fiber optics, LAN/WAN networks, schematics, and IT infrastructure layouts Climbing ability required for pole work or structure access; comfort working at heights preferred Electrical experience or low voltage wiring background is advantageous Strong physical stamina for outdoor work in varying weather conditions; ability to lift heavy equipment regularly Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on technical troubleshooting support in complex network environments Join us in building the backbone of modern communication!
